Energy drinks are designed to give the consumer a temporary energy boost. They often contain caffeine, stimulants, herbal supplements, or high amounts of sugar. Their use is often controversial, but many people still swear by them. Sports drinks are beverages intended to replace water, electrolytes and energy lost while performing sports or in training. They are thought to give energy and improve sports performance.

Is taurine dangerous?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Taurine is an amino acid that regulates water and minerals in your blood, as well as has antioxidant properties. Its found naturally in met, fish and many other food so few people actually need to take a supplement of taurine on the side. It is becoming increasingly popular with athletes who find it can help their performance at times. Taurine is considered a safe supplement, because your body only uses what it needs and the rest is flushed out through your kidneys. The research is still somewhat limited, so as with all supplements/additives moderation is probably best.

When should i drink energy drinks?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There are three kinds of "energy" drinks.

Each one fulfils a different function.

Firstly you have straight forward energy drink such as Red Bull. Not everyone reacts well with them, most kids don't so never give them to under 16yr olds, and some states and countries have banned then due to the levels of caffeine and taurine. They're drunk in vast quantities elsewhere and should ideally be used sparingly and before you fatigue, not once you're fatigued. If you have a pre-existing heart complaint you should avoid Red Bull and the like especially if combined with elevated HR levels such as exercise or trauma.

Secondly you have isotonic / electrolytes drinks or powders that you add to water.

Thirdly you have carbohydrate drinks and powders which you again add to water.

I don't know any mtn bike racers, amateur or professional who don't use both of the above powders in their bladders / water bottles every training ride or race or event. That's how much we rate them.

Do energy drinks shrivel your testicles?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

In effect it has been widely rumored that energy drinks or Mountain Dew (mainly the additive Yellow Dye No.5) can cause:

Sperm Sterility

Penis Shrinkage

Testicular Shrinkage

Some sort of genital cancer

and etc...

Oddly enough the high contents of Taurine, Guanine, Caffeine, and various other hard to pronounce chemical compounds have not proven conclusively that this is true. In fact in certain studies caffeine has been found to correlate with catalyzing sperm mobility (making your boys swim faster). As in any other products, moderation will usually ensure less likelihood of uncommon side effects so don't go nuts.

The only studies to show a negative effect are related to heart health and obesity/diabetes related articles.

Does energy drinks show up as a positive drug test?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Energy drinks containing ephedra may make you test positive for stimulants as ephedra is a precursor to methamphetamine. In the United States, ephedra is illegal in over-the-coutner energy drinks and other products.

Legally available energy drinks are a mixture of sugars, B-vitamins, amino acids, and caffiene. With the exception of the caffiene, all these supplements are things your body normally needs, but not in the high doses provided in the beverage. They may make you test positive for internal metabolic disorders, but not illegal drugs.

Is taurine bull pee?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Kind of. It's a an aminoethanesulfonic acid found in bile in the lower intestine and also in animal tissue. It can be found in lots of animals, including humans. However, the taurine used in energy drinks is a synthetic.

I don't think so. I looked up the meaning of the word "taurine" and it said "of or like a bull; bullish." I think the drink Red Bull (an energy drink) contain taurine. I doubt if they would put bulls urine in a drink, and if they did there would surely be a large number of complaints to the health and safety department.

ajh1357@AOL.com answer: actually taurine derives from the word Taurus which means bull and the reason they called it that is because scientists found it in bull bile and extracted the ingredient and they found that it has many health uses such as weight loss and to help fight fatigue and that's why its found in most all energy drinks such as "Redbull" and "monster".
