How many electoral votes does each State receive?

For the U. S. Presidential and Vice Presidential elections every four years, each state appoints a number of electors equal to the total number of Senators and Representatives that state has in Congress. Every state has two Senators and at least one Representative, so the minimum number of electors a state can be allowed is three.

The total number of Congressmen in the House of Representatives remains constant at 435. However, every ten years, in years ending with 1, the previous year's census is used to redistribute the 435 House seats among the 50 states according to their relative populations. Also, beginning with the 1964 election, D.C. appoints the same number of electors as the least populous state (currently Wyoming).
