Just correcting the following.

I have the newest thunderbird and I am currently using my Hotmail account on it.

Need instruction? 1. Go to file NEW

2. Then go to MAIL ACCOUNT

3. You will notice a dialog box asking you to fill in you NAME, EMAIL ADDRESS (can be @gmail, @hotmail, or even @eq.edu.au (Australia))

4. Once you enter the information and click okay, it will start some configurating then it will automatically finish.. EASY. hope I helped.

AND with all due respect to the person below me. You probably wrote that while using an old thunderbird the newest which you can get from the mozilla site has a lot more to it and IS better to use, its worth updating often. Thanks, MissyElliot

No you cannot use Mozilla Thunderbird with hotmail, i have tried everything to my knowledge and nothing has worked, the simple fact is Mozilla Thunderbird does not support http servers except for gmail, (witch doesnt make since), the bottom line is, you cannot add a custom server URL (witch in this case the hotmail server is, http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.com)

1. To close your account temporarily, one can simply sign out of their email account. The sign-out tab is usually located at the top right hand corner of the page.
2. However, there may be a need to permanently close your hotmail account. There are various reasons to close your account but you are not required to give an account for such reasons. You can simply close your account at whatever time is convenient for you or for whatever reasons.
3. 1. 1. To close your Windows Live Hotmail Account, simply go to the Close Your Account page and then click Close Account. Once the account is close, all incoming emails to that particular address are refused and all stored messages will be permanently deleted. However, the account will be reserved for another two hundred and seventy days. Afterwards, the email address will become available for others to use.
4. To be more specific, if you have an email account on MSN Hotmail/Windows Live, simply sign intothe account. At the bottom of the page, there is a link titled Help Center. Click on the link. A new page will appear. On the left side of the page, there is another link titled Help Center Home. Select it. On the new page, a set of frequently asked questions will appear; at the end of the page there will be a link How Do I Close My Account (etc). Click on the link and follow the instructions which follow on that page to close your account.
5. The page will inform you and also provide you with a specific link to go to in order to close the account. Click on the link Windows Live Account Overview. This link will take you to another web page for you to sign in again with your Windows Live ID.
6. You will be required to go to Additional Options to select Close Account
7. Afterwards, you will be required to verify your Windows Live ID and give your password. You will then click Yes to close your account.

• When you close your account all your information such as contacts, emails, username and password will be gone. However, some of your personal information will still be in existence. This information was collected when you set up the account initially. You might have used other Microsoft services and other companies which collected such personal information. This information is tracked to find out what you use. This information basically helps the company to offer a morepersonalized and convenient service in one site or rather one account. There are additional uses for your personal information. There is no need to be perturbed; in general, the information is used to help provide better services and products and create more convenience

The next part of the set up will be to configure Thunderbird. Open Thinderbird and go to File > New > Account... Next select "Gmail", click next and enter your name and gmail address(note: you do not have to enter the "@gmail.com" part of the address just your username). Click next and you should come to a summary and an option that you can select if you want to download all of your gmail messages. Select the option if you wish and click "Finish" . You will then be asked to enter your gmail.com password, but note that you can select an option to remember your password otherwise you will have to enter the password everytime you send and receive mail. So select that option if you wish and hit enter.

If you followed all the steps correctly you should be done. Now all you have to do is test it by sending an email to your yahoo email address.

To close your Windows Live account:

1. Log in at Windows Live Account Summary page.
2. On the navigation bar, click Settings.
3. Under Common tasks, click Close your account.
4. Verify that the correct Windows Live ID user name appears, type your password, and then click Yes.

2. Sign in using your Windows Live account and password.

3. Click "Close account" button.

Be aware Messenger, Hotmail and Livemail is now all connected to your Microsoft Account. (needed for Windows 8 apps, Windows 8 Microsoft User Account and Office 2013)

Right click on your toolbar (which is in the bottom left) and a little menu should come up. Then click properties. This should come up with another menu of some sort. Then you click on customize...

Another menu should appear, and a bunch of files should come up. One of them (maybe the first one) should say Windows Live Messenger. Click on this. Next to that is a little box, click the down arrow and click on always hide. Then click OK and then click OK again.

Now your MSN little person thing should be hidden unless you press the < arrow to view hidden icons.

Well, you'd know if someone has blocked on you on Messenger because when you try and talk to this particular person, the message will not send and it'll say that the person has blocked you.

You do have a few options to contact Customer Service at Hotmail if your account is blocked. Here are a few of them:

• Make a new hotmail account,
• Use one of your friends' accounts to contact them,
• Look for an online form that you can fill out without needing an email account in their Customer Service help center.
