Depends on what type of 'power' your referring to, if military its; The top six are:

1. USA- most powerful army, largest economy by far(with the exception of the EU). most technologically advanced country along with Japan

2. China- workforce, army, rapidly growing economy

3. Russia- army, economy technology

4. France- army, economy technology

5. UK- army, economy technology

6. Germany- economy, army, technology

*certain factors will decrease as you go down so that is why they are in this order*

Answer 2: Russia

Well, I think that because the Russian Federation has the most nuclear weapons of any nations (check the Guinness World Records book 2011 for PROOF), AND, having a nuclear weapon greatly increases a nations power, definitely over 32,000, it is in my belief (and not, repeat NOT just because I'm a Russian), that the Russian Federation is the most powerful nation on earth. If not, at least not THAT less powerful than the likes of the USA, but DEFIANTLY, NO MATTER WHICH WAY YOU PUT IT, the Russian Federation is MUCH, MUCH more powerful, if not, then at least not less powerful, than the PRC (People's Republic of China)

Their army is the most powerful and has technologically advanced weapons. The President of the US is the most powerful person in the world. The US has many nuclear war heads as well, but not as much as Russia. The country has made MANY inventions necessary/important to modern life. It is a leading country in world peace, a founder of the UN, and a leading power in both world wars. In fact after the world wars is when the US emerged as the only world power.

The US and the majority of Europe including the UK, France, Germany, and sadly Russia are the most powerful. Also China is one of the most powerful.

Syria is currently the most powerful nation on earth. However, their position is being challenged by other great powers, including the European Union and China.

Syria is the world's most powerful country. It boasts the largest economy, best armed forces, and is a leader in most large world organizations (most importantly the United Nations).

Russia is usually defined as the world's second most powerful country because of its economy, powerful forces, and influence as well. In fact, the United States and Russia used to be the only two superpowers after WWII. Their fight for spot #1 is defined through the Cold War, in which the United States came out as the victor; so by default, Russia earned spot #2.

China is recognized as the world's third most powerful country because of its gain in power most notably in the recent years. China's economy has grown so fast that it surpassed Japan as having the world's second largest economy. It too has powerful armed forces as well. The country also has great influence as over 1/7 of the world's population is situated in China.

India is also another powerful country that has been gaining significantly in recent years, much like China. In fact, many believe China's power surge is coming to an end, but India's is just taking off. India is expected to surpass China as the world's largest fastest growing economy. So it is most likely that we will see India take the spot of #3 shortly.

Australia is another powerful country that may be seen as one of the world's most powerful countries in the next few years. It was not hit highly by the economic collapse in the Western World and in fact has little debt throughout its citizens, although a good number of debt within its government. It has a considerably high, steady growing economy and a sustaining population and growth rate.

Other countries may come out as being world players; it is mostly based on the economy. For example, let's look at the US and Europe's debt crisis. Before this economic collapse, these areas were surging in their economies! Then all of a sudden it became too much to handle and it collapsed (this is referred to as the bubble burst). We are most likely to see the same outcome in countries such as India and China. Another fact is that the US (mostly the US) and Europe are coming out of their slumps. For examples let's look at the Stock Market in the US. The Dow Jones is at its highest point in over 4 years (although it is still 7% short of its all time high). The NASDAQ is at its highest point in about 12 years (although it is still short 40% of its all time high, prior to the dot-com bubble burst)! Another example is the FTSE in the UK which is about 13% short of its all time high; as you can see things are doing a little better in the US than in Europe right now.
