The Intolerable Acts were several punitive acts passed by the English Parliament in response to the Boston Tea Party. They were:

  1. The Boston Port Act, which closed the Port of Boston until the East India Company was repaid for the value of the destroyed tea.
  2. The Massachusetts Government Act, which limited the activities of Town Meetings and made most government positions appointed rather than elected.
  3. The Administration of Justice Act, which allowed the governor to move trials out of the colonies.
  4. The Quartering Act, which dealt with the housing of British Soldiers when barracks were not available.

The Quebec Act, which enlarged the boundaries of the Province of Quebec, is sometimes considered to be a fifth Intolerable Act.

(1774) laws passed by Parliament to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party and to tighten government control of the colonies, its also this; The Boston Tea Party made the new British Prime Minister very angry. Parliament punished Boston by passing the Intolerable Acts. The laws closed Boston Harbor until the colonists paid for the lost tea. They also had other effects unacceptable to the colonists and angered the colonists even more.
