I have found the grinding noise to be caused by either the power steering pump is low in fluid or a bad Power Steering pump. If you have a bad habit of turning the steering wheel all the way till you can't turn it anymore it will shorten the life of the pump. The pump is located usually in a convenient place under the hood and should have a knob labeled power steering so you can check it similar to checking your oil except the dip stick on the knob is real short. Take it out- Wipe off the dip stick - put it back in - take it out again and check the fluid level. Do not over fill - more is not better. You can buy power steering fluid at any auto supply store or Walmart in the automotive section.
I have a 1999 Ford Explorer and I was told about a grinding noise before I bought it. He told me that it was because it needs a new wheel baring. * If the vehicle is standing in place and the wheel is turned and there is a noise it could mean you need to add power steering fluid to the unit.
sounds like a wheel bearing.
soounds like steering wheel fluid needs to up
If its making a horrible grinding noise, it could be the bearing!
the dealership told me that it is due to the steering column needing to be lubricated
many reasons, steering pump, cv joints may be going out, or you could be grinding some plastic that goes around the wheel
it is the powering steering pump and or PS fliud leak
if u put wider aftermarket tires on then the tires are rubbing on the fender wheel well if you are refering to in/at the actual steering wheel, then some grinding noise is normal. it's possible the electrical contacts for airbag/cruise/radio controls, whatever you have on the steering wheel are making some grinding noise.
I would guess that it is the wheel bearing. is it a grumbling sound or an all out grinding? If it is or was a grumbling sound and has turned into a grinding it is probably the wheel bearing.
your brake pads are probley wore out so its grinding on your rotor
as far as the humming noise and the grinding noise it sounds like your power steering pump is either out of fluid or gone bad completely. as for the muffler? ?MAYBE? the strain from the bad power steering pump is overworking the engine causing it to make noise? answer definetly a bad steering pump as for muffler, the sound can be transfred and magnified on a car, replace steering pump before bothering about the muffler sound may be gone
If a car is making a grinding noise in the right back wheel, it could be a sign that a wheel bearing is failing. It is necessary to take the car to a qualified mechanic for repair.
