Christepher Columbus is a European explorer who sailed to the Caribbean islands in 1492. He thought he had landed in India so he called the Arawak's that lived in the Caribbean Indians. He had never noticed that the Arawak's were friendly and peaceful, so he kidnapped them and sold them as slaves. On Christepher's journey, he hoped to find new trading routes to Asia, spread Christianity, and find goods such as gold. He treated the Arawak's very irresponsibly and mean so the Europeans arrested him and brought him back to Europe. King Ferdnant and Queen Isabella were the ones who sent Christepher on to his journey, so when he was arrested, they let him go and payed for another voyage. Even though Christepher Columbus's journey to the Caribbean islands was crucial, it changed life forever.

Christopher Columbus was born in 1451 in Genoa, Italy. He went to sea as a young boy, and spent most of his life at sea. Columbus knew the world was round. He believed that by sailing west, instead of current route east around the coast of Africa, he would the East and the Spice Islands. He moved to Portugal trying to get money to support his journey. He eventually got support from Ferdinand and Isabella, the king and queen of Spain.
