There are several different reasons why WWI broke out.
The easiest reason was because ArchDuke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife Sophie were assassinated in Serbia by an anarchist.
There are more complicated reasons including treaties signed by various European Countries in the decades prier to WWI
Many this caused WW1:
Remember, the assasination of Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary (assassinated by Gavrillo Princip) triggered the war, not entirely caused it.
Hope this helps! You'll have to search the details for yourself though :)
The proximate cause for the war was the June 28th, 1914 assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, by a Serbian nationalist, Gavrilo Princip. Gavrilo was a 19 year old boy who was a member of a nationalist group called the Black Hand Movement. Austria-Hungary's resulting demands against the Kingdom of Serbia led to the activation of a series of alliances which within weeks saw all of the major European powers at war. As a consequence of the global empires of many European nations, the war soon spread worldwide.
good answer for the paragraph above also Germany were jealous of Britain and her allies as they had more countries under there belt such as Australia and India (colonies) Germany in turn went on austria's side and Russia went on Serbia side as Serbia was also a slavok nation. russia who was in the triple entente (allies) with us and France and Germany who made up the triple alliance with Austria and Italy.
so if Germany attacked Serbia there effectively attacking Russia which is allies with us and brought us into it. also Germany crossed through neutral Belgium to attack France breaking all kind of laws and rules .
archduke Ferdinand was assassinated, Serbia arrested the assasin, austro hungry asked Serbia to deport him, they refused so austro hungry invaded Serbia and other countries got involved.
Because it was too much trouble NOT to have a war. It was eminently avoidable at that time, it's just that no-one could be bothered to halt the inexorable movement towards war. However given the instability of Europe at that time a war was fairly inevitable in the early 20th Century, be it in 1905 or in 1920.
The assination of Archduke Ferdinand, heir to the Austrian throne, is commonly considered to be the fuse that lit WWI. Look up "Archduke Ferdinand" for a comprenhensive story of his life.
