Vertebrae are bones in the spine that contain the spinal cord and allow for spinal nerves to exit. ? Being bones, vertebrae do not control the arms.
The spinal nerve roots ?that come out of the vertebrae do however control many aspects of function, including: muscle movement, sensation, blood vessel tone, and your hair standing on end.
The spinal levels that control the arms are C5-T1. ?There may be a little T2 in there for sensation, and there may be a little C4 in there for shoulder muscles; but the answer is generally accepted to be C5-T1.
Can a pinched nerve cause pain in the ribs?
Yes. A pinched nerve in the thoracic spine, called a thoracic radiculopathy, can have pain localized in the upper back or mid back that wraps around to the front following the path of one or more of the ribs. Often the pain is described as a burning pain, shooting pain, or a prickling "pins & needles" type of pain. The pain may be provoked by certain movements of the trunk. Other causes of rib pain to consider include injury to the rib itself, infection or tumor of the rib itself, inflammation of the point where the rib meets the sternum (chostrochondritis), referred pain from an organ, sprain of a muscle attached to a rib, or dysfunction of the joint where the rib meets the spine.
Should a 10 yr old boy with neck pain go to chiropractor?
This would certainly be a good place to start. A doctor of chiropractic will examine you and determine the cause of your neck pain. The chiropractor will then be able to tell you if he/she can help alleviate the pain. If it determined that the pain is caused by something more sinister, he/she will be able to tell you where to go next, and what your options are.

Luke 4:23 New Living Translation (NLT)
23 Then he said, "You will undoubtedly quote me this proverb: 'Physician, heal yourself'-meaning, 'Do miracles here in your hometown like those you did in Capernaum.'How did Mary and Joseph live, thrive, and multiply without a knowledge of vitamins, minerals, and calories, carbohydrates, proteins, and fats; how did Jesus begin his ministry of healing and preaching without sports chiropractic "multidisciplinary approach" that applies chiropractic adjustments, in addition to soft-tissue techniques, physical therapy, rehabilitation, innovative training techniques, nutritional counseling, plyometrics, education on injury prevention, and more is nothing short of a miracle!Did you know that 1%-10% of the healthiest people on the planet receiving regular chiropractic care do so in order to get well and stay well? How often can you go to a chiropractor?
The amount of times a person visit a chiropractor to be adjusted to relieve back pain truly varies with each and every case. Things that must be taken into account are:
The list goes on, and that is why it is important to have a qualified Doctor of Chiropractic properly evaluate your condition before an adjustment occurs.
The standard of care put forth by medicine and in chiropractic text books explains that back pain should show some form of relief within two weeks of care. This is excellent in a perfect world, but when other factors are taken into account, some may need 2 adjustments, others may need 6 months of routine care.
The most unfortunate part about chiropractic is the fact that each persons body needs time to heal once the misalignment is corrected. In addition, the misalignment needs time to fully correct, as muscles and ligaments need to adapt as well. This is contrary to the instant relief a pain pill may give, but is superior in every way to medication in the long term.
Best of luck.
Why did Steriod medication not work for your occipital neuralgia--will chiropractic help?
If the steroids did not work there are a couple of possibilities:
- First, how was your occipital neuralgia diagnosed? Occipital neuralgia implies damage to the nerves that innervate the dermatomes of your head (occipital nerves), from trauma, tumor, etc. That being said, the first possibility is that you were misdiagnosed. Is it possible that you are simply sufering from tension-type headaches or another syndrome that has similar symptoms? Steroids may not be effective for tension-type headaches, and this might explain why they didnt work. If this is the case then chiropractic can almost certainly help, as it is very effective for tension-type headaches.
- Second, steroids do not always work, and you may speak to your medical doctor about a nerve block instead. If you want to avoid drugs then you may consider trying a chiropractor even if the diagnosis was correct. There is almost no risk to chiropractic treatment and it has been shown repeatedly in the literature to be an effective pain reliever. Give it a try, you can aways try something else again if it doesn't work.
Can chiropractic help memory loss and mental fuzziness?
To date, no research has been done to investigate the effects of spinal manipulation, or any other form of therapy provided by doctors of chiropractic, on memory or mental acuity. I am sure that there are some patients of chiropractic who would claim to have had improvements in memory or other mental function, but this is what is refered to as anecdotal evidence, and is not sufficient to warrant recommending chiropractic treatment for these conditions. Thus, at this point the best answer would be - no one knows.

Why are chiropractors not treated with the respect that other doctors receive?

Essentially, they are not respected like other doctors because they are not actually doctors.
There is no specific answer for everyone, it depends on how bad the sprain was. There should be a gradual return to your sport. I would recommend staying off your foot completely if there is pain. Then, once you can stand/walk pain free, start walking on it again. Your chiropractor, physiotherapist or medical doctor should provide range of motion exercises and isometric strengthening exercises you can do to speed this transition. Slowly increase the amount of activity you are doing, and always stop when there is pain. Dont start jumping or landing or running on your foot until you can do so with NO PAIN.
You should get specific advice from whatever health care professional is managing your case.
Can someone with asperger syndrome become a chiropractor?
Someone with aspergers syndrome can certainly become a chiropractor, provided they can meet the educational criteria (4 years of undergraduate university, 4 years of chiropractic college, pass board exams).
That being said, chiropractic is a health care profession that involves alot of one-on-one interaction between a doctor and his/her patient, and communication skills are a big asset. As aspergers syndrome is characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction, a chiropractor with aspergers syndrome may have a difficult time interacting/communicating with his/her patients, and thus may not be very successful.
Thus, although someone with aspergers COULD become a chiropractor, I would suggest that they strongly consider whether or not it is the right career choice for them.
Is fit-ball safe for bad back sufferers?
This is a very general question so I will have to give a general answer. Fit balls are a great tool that can be used to supplement your exercise program. They are especially a great way to incorporate core stability training, which can help reduce future occurrences of back pain. That being said, if done improperly (doing more risky exercises than your current stability or balance will allow) can result in injury and more back pain. Talk to your doctor of chiropractic and/or your physiotherapist about what exercises are safe and how to do them properly.

How much does a chiropractic office manager with little experience get paid?
I make 11.00 an hour at 36 hours a week, I hate my job. Not worth it.
Whoever wrote this either sucks at his/her job and is an under paid moron. what kind of idiot makes 11 dollars an hour as a management position in a medical facility. I am a chiropractic assistant and I have been doing it for 4 years. I make a 14.50 an hour. I started at 12. So if you only make 11 you are either being lowballed by the doctor, or you plain suck at your job. I happen to enjoy my job and it is worth it due to the fact that I interact and enjoy helping people. Not a career, just a job.You are obviously a nitwit and deserve nothing more than what you are getting paid.
I go to the chiropractor very often and am a flip flop person. They don't ask you to remove anything except your jacket if you're wearing one. The first time in went I wore them and they slipped a little bit but if u tighten up your toes it hold onto them, ever since then my flip flops have never fallen off.
Can a chiropractor refuse you treatment if you refuse to attend an after hours meeting?
I am a chiropractor. A chiropractor doesn't have to do business with you if he doesn't want to (unless you try to claim patient abandonment-which usually doesn't work.) If, however, he isn't willing to treat you because of some unreasonable demand of his, such as requiring you to attend some after hours meeting, you can always send a complaint to the state chiropractic board. It is then likely that they will instruct this chiropractor to cease any such unprofessional activities.
I don't really understand what you mean by "a half inch to through out the neck", but depending on the exact location, it could be a number of things.
If it's on the side of your neck, either below your jaw or just behind your collar bone, it could be a swollen lymph node, which is typically a result of your body fighting off an infection. Typically my lymph nodes will swell up when I have a cough/cold, but they've even grown to golf ball-size when I contracted cat scratch fever.
If its your Adam's apple that is swollen, then it could be a goiter, which is a swollen thyroid gland caused by an iodine deficiency.
Is it inappropriate to date your chiropractor?
In short, Yes. It is unethical for any kind of doctor to date their patient as their is a power differential between the two people. Besides the fact that it is unethical, depending on your location it may be illegal. In Ontario it is against the chiropractic code of conduct to date your patients, or treat someone you are in a relationship with. Besides the ethical dilemma, there are issues with the quality of care that a significant other receives. Whatever the reason, in Ontario a doctor of chiropractic will lose their license if they are caught dating a patient.
