Yes, vinegar is a common ingredient in many homemade fabric softener recipes. When used correctly, it does a nice job of softening them up without leaving behind the vinegar smell.

No, oven cleaner is too harsh for the stove top finish. I have had 2 cook stoves with ceramic top and I have been told both times you could only use the cleaner they recommend but there is generic brands at the dollar stores DG brand that is cheaper.

Go to a pet supply store (the large chain stores usually have these products and better prices) and buy a product made with enzymes to remove pet stains. Read the label and the right ones will tell you that the product is effective for urine, feces, vomit, blood and other stains caused by pets. These work just as well on human stains if the feces is not from a pet, and they work better than the products sold for carpet and furniture cleaning. Follow the instructions on the label which will include first removing any large pieces and follow with the use of the product. One that is very good is called "Nature's Miracle", but there are other brands that you will find in the pet supply store that have the same enzymatic action. Another brand of similar cleaner you can find in some grocery stores is called "Incredible!". It is very good on smaller stains, but for the larger stains, you can get Nature's Miracle by the gallon.

I had curry stains on a new white Ralph Lauren polo shirt. After reading a variety of posts from a number of different sites, I decided to make a paste of Oxyclean and apply it directly to the stains and let it sit for 15 minutes or so. I noticed that the paste quickly turned the yellow stains red, but I had read that that might happen. So, after 15 minutes of pre-stain treatment, I washed the polo shirt in a washer with hot water, Arm & Hammer Laundry Detergent (with Baking Soda), Clorox bleach, and a scoop of Oxyclean. It worked the first time! No trace of the curry/tumeric stain on the shirt at all!

If you can't get it professionally cleaned the next best thing to do is to immediately blot up the liquid, then rewet with baking soda water, reblot, and do over again a couple of times. Baking Soda will lift the stain and odor, won't bleach, and is safe. Diluted eucalyptus oil also works effectively, as does liquid Wool Wash. If using eucalyptus oil, put about a tablespoon of eucalyptus oil into a spray bottle and spray the stain. It is best to get to the stain as soon as possible.

There are many ways and things you can try To get rid of fruit flies. I personally recommend that you use a vinegar trap. It is efficient and not hazard's. All you need to do is to pour some vinegar into a source. Then make a cone out of paper with the one end small enough for a fruit fly to go into. The cone must not touch the vinegar. The fruit flies will go in because they love the smell but they won't know how to get out.

If the mortar which has dried upon the brick is a Portland Cement mortar there is no sure fire way to remove it. As a professional mason I tell my customers that we can reduce the degree of mortar staining but seldom can we eliminate it. We use Muriatic Acid mixed with water 1:10. That's 1 part muriatic acid to 10 parts water. You can buy Muriatic acid at most Home Improvement stores as it is commonly used in swimming pools. Wear chemical proof gloves and eye goggles. Use a mason's sponge, a stiff nylon brush and a good "putty" knife. Soak the dried mortar with the 1:10 mixture using the sponge. Scrub with the nylon brush. Use the putty knife to carefully scrape away anything larger than an "film". If this does not result in the removal increase the strength of the acid gradually but do not exceed 1:5. The acid will burn the brick if it is used too strong or left to sit on the brick too long. Have a bucket of clean water with a mason's sponge close at hand to neutralize the acid once your scrubbing has been completed. Be careful where the acid and water mixture is allowed to "run off". It will kill plants and harm most surfaces. Consult local codes before you attempt this method to determine where you can safely dispose of the mixture.

The ideal way is to have the stained removed with a professional cleaning, especially if the sofa is antique or highly valued. Fabrics commonly called "velvet" can actually be cotton, synthetic, blended or velveteen. Whatever method you choose, be sure to perform a spot-test in an inconspicuous area. That said, here are some things you may want to try:

For all methods, the goal is to lift the stain by blotting, not spread it by rubbing.

First, try common dishwashing liquid in water. Allow to dry fully, then try applying one of the stain removers below, being sure to blot to remove.

Spray the stain with aerosol hair-spray, blot every few minutes until hairspray is dry. Repeat.

Apply eucalyptus oil. The smell of the eucalyptus will dissipate in the air eventually, or you can clean the entire sofa after the stain has been removed, to help get rid of the odor faster if you find it unpleasant.

Use rag dampened with dishwashing liquid in water. Wipe down the entire sofa and allow to air dry. Use a soft hairbrush brushing the entire nap in one direction, then in the other direction. Repeat the brushing a few times as the fabric dries.
