"Goo Gone"! I left some rubber strips, heavily covered in thick silicone, in the tub while I was doing some maintenance work. The strips had good time to cure themselves to the tub, I had left them there for 2 days. Obviously not thinking about the sticky mess it would make in the tub. I scraped off the top layer with a hard plastic silicone remover tool (not so great). It removed the thick top layer. I was left with a sticky mess that just wouldn't come off. I sprayed the tub with "Goo Gone", an orange based house hold cleaner. Let it sit for about 10 minutes and I was able to remove the sticky mess with nothing but a dry rag. No damage to the tub, metal or knife scratches, and hardly any muscle or effort. Great stuff, it's in the house hold cleaner isles.

It should come off most paint with just a little TSP, some water and a little work. Lamp shades are different though. You might just need new ones if you can't find someone who can clean it professionally.

To set the Controls for a Self-clean cycle :

1. Be sure the clock shows the correct time of day.

2. Push the CLEAN pad. ''---'' appears in the display.

3. Push the UP ARROW pad until ''3:00' appears in the display for a 3 hour cycle, or push the DOWN ARROW pad until ''2:00'' appears in the display for a 2 hour cycle.

4. As soon as the UP or DOWN ARROW pad is released, ''CLN'' appears in the display.

5. As soon as the controls are set, the motor driven lock will begin to close automatically and the ''LOCK'' indicator light will flash. DO NOT open the door while the light is flashing (it takes about 15 seconds for the lock to close).

6. The ''LOCK'' light will glow until the cleaning cycle is completed or cancelled, and the oven temperature has cooled.

When the Self-Clean Cycle is completed :

1. The time of day or ''End'' will appear in the display window and the ''Clean'' and ''LOCK'' light will continue to glow.

2. Once the oven has cooled down for about 1 hour and the ''LOCK'' light has gone out, the oven door can be opened.

3. If ''END'' is in display and the ''Clean'' indicator remains on, press CLEAR OFF pad. The time of day will appear in the display.

Stopping or interrupting a self-cleaning cycle :

If it becomes necessary to stop or interrupt a self-cleaning cycle due to excessive smoke or fire :

1. Push the CLEAN OFF pad.

2. Once the oven has cooled down for about 1 hour and the ''LOCK'' light has gone out, the oven door can be opened.

3. Correct the condition which caused the smoking.

4. Restart the self-clean cycle once all conditions have been corrected.

If the oven isn't clean in some places you can use a bit of Easy-Off to take the stains out.

I use a little dab of bleach in the wash (or color safe bleach). It helps, but unfortunately once the smell gets in - it never truly goes away. Prevention is the best remedy!

after years of the problem..... Make sure your dryer vent lined is NOT obstructed... make sure you are using the right amount of detergent... also make SURE your cold water line is not patially obstructed or this rinse cycle will not ever be complete...wash towels with a few squirts of "spray and wash".... after washing like this.... tumble dry for about twenty minutes and then hang outside to finish drying IN THE SUNSHINE.... the sunlight kills many of the microbes that cause odor... done 3 times a year, i have never since had any problems with even the most PLUSH towels!!!!!!!!!!

Pyrex usually cleans up pretty well if you just let it soak then scrub normally (and repeat as needed). If there's material that you really can't get off and you don't have scouring pads (like SOS) you can use baking powder (like Arm & Hammer). It isn't unusual to have some discoloration around the edge on a well used pyrex :)
