I would think of it as a soft box. Lightly, sketch a rough box shape, add some pockets and straps. Then, go over your lines continually refining to get the feel you want, that backpack feel.

That is a physical change. The is no chemical change that takes place when you sharpen your pencil in a standard manner. I suppose if you sharpen it extremely fast, you could catch the pencil on fire, which would then be a chemical change.

Try a beaver and a canoe, maybe a beaver paddling a canoe. If you wanted it to be more accurate you could have a stack of beaver skins in York Boat with several Scots rowing.

Or a couple of trees on the bank of a river will do.

It really depends on what you are coloring in. If you are coloring something small then use a thin brush and if you are coloring something big then use a big brush sometimes in a packet of watercolor pencils you can find a brush.
