Does holding a fish upside down affect the fish?
yes it can affect the fish because if you holed the fish upside down you can cause it not to breathe because all of the water is out of its system
Fish do not hear in the same way as us. If you closely observe the sides of a fish you will see what seems to be a dotted line running from behind the fishes gills all the way along the fishes body down to the tail. (some fish have two of these lines) This line is called a "Lateral Line" It consists of tiny nerve endings that are very sensitive to many things including vibrations. Sound is simply vibration so this "Lateral LIne" is what a fish uses to hear things instead of ears.

One way to stun or paralyze a fish is to hit it quite hard on the head with a stone or the likes. Another way to "paralyze" the fish is to cut off the main fin [ the propeller fin ] then it cannot swim away or swim at all.
fish usually act "paralyzed" when they are in shock. like most people have said you do need to change the water, again making sure that all of your levels,

What fish work best in a aquaponics set up?
Many different kinds of fish work well. For small growers, and possibly large as well, one of the most popular species is tilapia. Tilapia are not perfect, because they need to be kept a little warm, but they are very hardy otherwise, they can be bred easily, and they grow very fast.
Some people grow goldfish in aquaponics systems. Most often these people are not interested in eating the fish, but keep them for the nutrients they put into the water. Goldfish are very hardy, and can take very cold water, even water that is icing over. They also breed rather easily.
Other fish work as well. I know people who keep minnows, which can be used for bait. I know people who have eaten them. Many of them are very like goldfish in their care.
I would definitely not start with trout, which require a lot of high-protein food and will not tolerate warm water. Commercial growers might raise tilapia in the summer and trout in the winter.
If you gut a fish you have just caught out the sea will it be warm inside?
No. Fish are not warm blooded.
