How do you breed guppys?

If you have a male and a female they will breed when they are old enough. Since they have live babies you must have some type of very thick grass for the babies to hide in so they won't be eatten. You also could use the net containers that hang inside the aquarium. If you do that, put the female in after she gets the large dark spot on her belly and be sure to take her out after the babies come or she will eat them. They are hard to see. Very small spots will be all there is to see at first so watch her belly and look closely.

The male and female will breed, Even if you do not want them to. Usally when you buy a female guppy from the pet store thouh, she is all ready going to have babies soon. Just be sure to put lots of plants, for the babies to hide in, If you don't have a nursery tank. When the female looks ready to blow, and you have choose to have a nursery tank set up, put her in there. When she has them all, take her out. And voila, baby fish.

Guppies will breed on their own, but guppy fry are considered a tasty treat for the rest of the fish in your aquarium. If you watch your female carefully you will be able to tell when she is about to deliver... I find that breeding traps work best because after the babies are delivered, I like to move them to their own smaller tank until they are large enough to return to the community tank. You can buy a breeding trap for as low as five dollars at a pet store ore sometimes even Wal-mart.

Do fish see in black and white?

Most of them can distinguish colors well, while some species like the skate (cartilaginous fish) or some sharkspecies cannot. Fish that inhabit deep sea waters don't see in colour as well since there's not enough light and so their vision is based on rodes (photoreceptors - for light and shadow only)

How do you tell male guppies from female guppies?

There are many differences not the least of which is the size difference. The females are much larger than the males, and the males are much more colourful than the females which tend to be quite drab. The actual sexual difference can be observed by looking at the fishes Anal fin which in the female is triangular but in the male this fin has developed into a pointed funnel (called a gonopodium) along which his sperm (milt) will travel.

Does guppy fertilization happen internal or external?

I have guppies as well. The males spray sperm around the female which finds its way to her womb where her eggs are fertilized. Once she is pregnant, she will deliver 30-60 live babies.

Be careful, these little guys usually become lunch.

What is the number of eggs or young at 1 time by a guppy?

It varies depending on the age or size of the guppy. Although the normal range is 20 to 50 young, it may be as few as five or as many as 100. There has been at least one instance of 200 fry at a single birthing.

Why is your male guppy twirling upside down and to its side and still alive?

How many companions for 12 neon tetras in 60L biorb life?

a good rule of thumb for stocking aquariums is one gallon for every inch of fish.

Do small stingrays eat neon tetra?

Saltwater stingrays would never come in contact with neon tetras, and if you were to try to put them in the same tank then one would die because it would be in the wrong type of water. So, saltwater stingrays do not eat neon tetras.

On the other hand, there are freshwater types of stingrays. Those stingrays are able to live in freshwater and require very similar water temperature as the neon tetra. But, freshwater stingrays have a venomous stinger, and there is a risk that they could breed and populate the local lakes and rivers. That poses a great danger to people who use the lakes for recreation. So, in the United States it is usually illegal to buy a freshwater stingray. So, freshwater stingrays might eat neon tetras, but its illegal to obtain them, so you probably wont ever have to worry about your neon tetra being eaten by a freshwater stingray.

What are the best tank mates for guppies?

In my family's tank, we have 2 Dwarf Gourami and 2 Fire Dwarf Gourami. They live fine and no fights have happened. Make sure not to have one more male then female or the males will fight.
