Is it true humans eat a pound of insects every year without knowing it?

It's actually closer to a quarter of a kilogram, but we do accidentally eat insects. For example, the apples you see in the fruit stand are the pretty ones, undamaged and uninfested. But apples that go into apple sauce aren't as pretty, and often the insects that are on or inside them are chopped up and end up in the jars. Same goes for tomato soup, chocolate and many other products. There are guidelines for the allowed amount of insect, but it's impossible to completely filter them out.

Then there's the intentional eating of insects - pretty much all red sweets, cookies etc. are dyed using a pigment from a certain species of aphid, for example.

You won't ever notice this, and it's proven it's actually good for you - free protein!

Can termites go in your skin?

Termites are not dangerous to people, so you don't have to worry about getting hurt by them. With most species, the Soldier termites, which live inside the colony and attack invaders, could bite you. Workers sometimes can as well. They can't sting, but they can bite. Unlike fire ants, they don't have a venom in their bite that could harm you, so it would just be like a regular bug bite. And even then, the soldiers don't leave the colony. Unless you stick your hand into a colony itself, you're not going to get bitten.
