Syria and Lebanon both gained independence from France; Lebanon in 1943, and Syria, in 1946. French troops withdrew from Lebanon in 1946.

Syria lies between Lebanon and Iraq.

Lebanon gained independence from French colonial rule in 1943 through negotiations between Lebanese political leaders and the French authorities. This led to the establishment of the modern Lebanese state and the end of French Mandate rule in the country.

The human race.

Generally speaking, the Lebanese are descendant from the Ancient Phoenicians - some would consider part of the line of Javan or Greece today. Their appearance is commonly white skinned with light hair & eyes and have high check bones. They are not commonly considered part of the Arab peoples though a large part of the Lebanese community is Arab genetically.

Today, Lebanon has a wide variety of ethnicities living there. As noted above, the majority have Phoenician ancestry. A recent study lead by Greece concluded the following demographically: Lebanese Phoenicians/Canaanites make 50-70 % of the Lebanese people with the second largest ethnic group being those of Arab descent - 20-25%. The next largest grouping are the Syriac-Arameans ( West Aramaic ) 5-10 % . Greeks , Armenians , Hebrews , Assyrians , Kurds , Persians and other ethnic groups form the rest of the Lebanese community 10-15 % .

The Lebanese, from their earliest beginnings ( estimated by some to be circa 10,000 B.C. or earlier ) until the year 636 A.D, spoke the Phoenician language - the oldest language in the world . After the Arabs invaded in 636 AD, they enforced the Arabic language.

Lebanon has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. The coastal areas tend to be more moderate in temperature, while the inland areas experience more extreme temperatures. Snowfall is common in the mountainous regions during the winter months.

The roots of a Cedar of Lebanon tree can spread widely, typically extending to around 1.5 times the diameter of the tree's canopy. In optimal conditions, these roots can reach up to 50 feet or more from the base of the tree.

There are few major stereotypes about Lebanon, especially in Arab circles. As Lebanon is one of the most liberal and Westernized Arab States, Lebanese women are usually seen as attractive and loose and Lebanese men are usually seen as handsome and womanizers. The "attractive women" stereotype has even leaked to the West. Lebanese are also seen as overly materialistic and appearance-oriented. They are also considered to be ridiculously proud of being Lebanese.

Of course, it should be noted that all of these stereotypes are, by and large, false and simply amplified by the cultural differences between Lebanese and other Arabs.


That its people are Arabic-speaking Muslims is an example of a stereotype about Lebanon. In reality, Lebanon numbers among the world's countries whose populations include longstanding Christian practitioners and whose culture and society show European cultural influences.

The population of Tripoli, Lebanon is about 500,000.

Hezbollah is an organization and therefore has a membership, not a population.

It does not provide its own information on its size, but several estimates are worth considering. Mustafa Alani, security director at the Dubai-based Gulf Research Centre, estimated that Hezbollah's armed wing comprises 1,000 full-time Hezbollah members, along with a further 6,000-10,000 volunteers. According to Israel's Jerusalem Post, Hezbollah has 41,000 fighters and according to the Iranian Fars News Agency, Hezbollah has up to 65,000 fighters.

There is no specific data on the exact number of Hindus living in Beirut. The Hindu population in Lebanon is quite small, estimated to be around a few hundred individuals. Beirut, being the capital city, may have a small community of Hindus, but there are no official statistics available.

The population growth rate in Lebanon is currently estimated to be around 1% per year.

It is difficult to give an exact age but the earliest settlements in Lebanon date back to 5000 bc.

Lebanon Valley College is located at 101 North College Avenue, Annville, PA 17003. The campus is on 340 acres 8 miles east of Hershey, PA. It was founded in 1866 and has 1600 full-time undergraduate students.

I believe that it would be next to impossible to get a job at 14. I can't remember the laws but even if it is legal, there are so many restrictions placed on young workers (can only work 3 hours a day, can't work past 9pm...) that no places would want to hire. Your best bet would be to do odd jobs for neighbors or people you know. If you have a particular skill (babysitting, mowing) make up a flier and post it around area businesses. Otherwise you will probably not be able to get a regular job until you are 16, maybe 15 if you are lucky.
