As an American who has been to Marrakesh numerous times, I can tell you that it is relatively safe there. Just avoid the Old City after midnight because there are occasionally brawls. The worst danger for Americans in Morocco is that you will be ripped off when bargaining over prices. The item is probably worth one-third of the price they have quoted you.
