How do you trap a garden snake?

For one, you probably mean, Garter Snake. Some may have a checkered blotched design on the length of it's back, and olive drab colored, while some will have some stripes (ribbons) the length of it's body. Ribbon snakes are related to Garters.

Two, they generally eat frogs, snails, slugs, fish or an occasional lizard. They will strike at you when cornered but seldom do any damage. Use gloves if you have to. Never catch a snake by the body for it will have its chance to bite. Place a hat or cloth directly over its head and most of the time they'll think they've hidden. Follow the body until you find it's neck. Then you can pick it up by the neck, gently but with enough pressure that it can't get away. It will musk you. One of the biggest muskers. But, if you want it they can make easy pets. Have plenty of water to swim in and fish are cheap.

What is the weight of an anaconda snake?

General information!

The question what is the biggest snake can be confusing, the biggest as far as girth (largest being measured at 44 inches or 1,1176 m) is the Green Anaconda, on average anacondas are more then 20 ft (6.09 m) long many reaching lengths of 29ft ( 8.83 m) or more, with a weight of over 550 lbs ( 249.48 kg), in terms of length then and only then will the Reticulated Python exceed the anaconda, the longest python was measured at 33 ft ( 10.05 m) but even this python can't match the total mass of the anaconda.

Anacondas are members of the Boidae family of reptiles and spend most of their time in rivers and swamps of the Amazon in South America which makes them excellent swimmers and are capable of holding their breath for around 15 minutes, female anacondas are generally larger then the males and bear their young live and are called "Neonates", the number of young varies, some have produced 100 babies, but the average is between 20 to 40 babies. Diet consist of (depending on the size of the anaconda, the larger the snake the larger the prey) large/small rodents like capybaras, also pigs, caiman, jaguars, deer, dogs, birds even fish and is acquired by ambushing and constricting it's prey (the anaconda is so powerful it generally crushes it's prey) then swallowing it whole, the digestion of the anaconda is very slow thereby allowing it to survive without food for well over a year.

Anacondas have around a 30 year life span and the biggest threat to it is man and loss of their habitat.

Can you get mites from snakes?

You can get rid of mites on snakes by completing an intence cleaning on your cage every 4 days for 12-16 days or until needed. First buy Povidone-Iodine and a mite killer. I have heard that "mite off" works well and I have had great results with Natural Chemistry Reptile spray. On day 1 prepare a mixture of 80 degree F. water with the Povidone-Iodine until it looks like medium tea. Before you put your snake in it hold him in some plain 80 degree F. water so that he can drink or deficate. You might, pardon the pun, have to hold your snake in the concoction in order to keep him calm and in it. If he deficates (poops) then change the mixture and put him back in. Keep your snake in there for atleast 10 minutes. The Povidone-Iodine will help to heal any bites and drown any mites. Make sure that even the head gets covered in the mixture, use a que-tip soaked in it to do that. Once your snake has been soaked, put him in a temperary cage filled with paper towels to dry off. While your snake is in a temporary cage, take out all of the items in his cage(logs, stones, sticks, plastic plants etc...). Logs can be baked in the oven at 200 degrees F. for 2 hours, just keep an eye on them. If they are to big to go in the oven then soak them along with the other cage items in hot water, completely submerged, for a day. Take out the substrate and throw it in a trash bag, GET IT OUT OF THE HOUSE ASAP!!! If you have carpet throw it away, you can buy a new one at the end of the process. Once the cage is empty, vacume it making sure to get in all of the corners. Then spray down your cage with the cleaner you bought and let in sit for 5-10 minutes. After sitting, wipe it down with a wet cloth and dry it. Then vacume again. I recommend using news papers as a substrate and using boxes as hide outs, until it's over. Your snake won't be as happy with these things but you don't want to waste money on substrate or have to clean the cage items every 4 days. After airing out the cage for an hour, you can add the news paper and boxes(cut an opening in the side with the boxes bottum up). Now you can put your snake back in! Do this every 4 days until the mites are gone, it shouldn't take more than 16 days. On the last day you can redecorate your cage to it's former glory knowing that your snake can live mite free! I hope this system works just as well for you as it did for me. I used it on my 4 month old corn snake who was sold to me with mites. It worked!

How do amphibians excrete?

Amphibians, like any other animal in the animal kingdom, excrete in the same way that we do. Amphibians excrete through, obviously, feces, and urine. They also rid themselves of waste through their sweat glands; many wastes exit the body through the form of sweat. The last most common form, is through respiration. Carbon dioxide is considered to be a waste, and it, along with many other gasses are released from the body through your breath!

When do garden snakes mostly come out?

The best time to catch one is mid- morning on a sunny day. Snakes like to bask to raise their body temperatures and will look for exposed, sunny spots to catch the warming sun. Trails or roads near wetlands are your best bet for finding snakes. Unfortunately, the use of roads for basking leads to a major source of mortality for garter snakes! It's tragic, but there are probably many snakes that are killed on roads each year by well meaning people on their way to visit the snake dens

you could buy a pellet or BB gun to keep them away or simply put up a fence. depending on the environment in which you live, there are many solutions. i know a person who actually use an air horn to scare them off, though this is not the most effective way for dealing with the situation. my dog was recently killed by coyotes and i am currently looking for a pellet gun at gander mountain to prevent that from happening again. hope this helped

What to snakes eat?

Yes. Many North American Garter snakes as well as various species of water snakes eat goldfish. The Burmese Vine snake also eats goldfish. If you have a pet snake that eats goldfish you will not only have to feed them more often than a rodent eater, you will also of course have to clean their cages more often. Garter snakes have a really mild poison that works to subdue the fish as they are eating it. They also eat the fish alive just so you know :)
