Do spanish speakers tend to shake hands more then Americans?

Handshaking is dependent on one's culture, not necessarily on the language you are speaking per se. In Spain, for instance, people shake hands more frequently in not just business but also social situations, whereas Mexicans shake hands a bit more most Americans do--in business situations but not necessarily in social situations. People from other Spanish-speaking countries (Puerto Rico, Columbia, Venezuela, Argentina, etc.) have slightly different customs as well.

How can you contact orange network in Spain?

yes online you can look up www.orange.es (movil) or call from UK is 00 34 656 00 14 70

The only way to contact Orange within Spain is to call 470 from an Orange cell phone. From here you must navigate an automated machine in Spanish. Once you reach a person, you must explain in Spanish that you need someone who speaks English. Orange.es has no option for English and no option to chat or send email

since orange UK were completely unhelpful and could not give me any helpful contact information whatsoever not even international directory enquiries (they gave me the wrong number) I truly hope this helps someone else as i wasted 2 hrs on calls just trying to get help from UK customer support (and a fair amount of cost calling Spain afterwards - turned out i needed to change the phone settings from auto roaming to manual - orange UK should have been able to tell me this!).

How do you pronounce RIOJA?

English speaking people tend to pronounce RIOJA like: Ree-Oh-Ha. Like Jesus, or Hey-zeus. You can definitely get away with it 99% of the time but its not really the proper way to pronounce it.

In this part of Spain, Rioja is pronounced where the 'j' sounds more like a throaty '-rk' or 'Ree-ork-ah'. Although its important to know that it doesn't sound like reorcka, the throatiness of it gives it a bit of that 'ha' inflection Spanish J's are known for.

Are the Basques under Spain's control?

The Basques are a nation located on both sides of the western Pyrennees mountains. So, they are in Sapin and France. In Spain most of them (2.2 million) live in the so-called Basque Autonomous Community whose capital is Vitoria-Gasteiz and its biggest town Bilbao. Navarre is also culturally a Basque region but it makes up a different Autonomous Community the majority of its population reject to join the so-called Basque Community mentioned before. Basques have their own institutions and some devolved powers, remarkably the right to establish and collect all taxes paid by their citizens. In any case there is currently a big discussion on the need to make a new agreement with Sapin that would recognize them officially as a distinct nation in Spain. Madrid rejects negotiating the issue. In France they are part of the département des Pyrénnées-Atlantiques of which they are about 40 per cent of the whole population. The y don't have their own self-governing institutions and currently they are asking for a départment only for themselves. Basque language is a preindoeuropean language, the only one that remains in Europe, and although it was forbidden for years to speak it , it is spoken by around 40% of the population being used for teaching at schools at the Basque Autonomous Community, where it is an official language.
