How big is the biggest surfboard invented?

As a novelty, renowned Gold Coast (Australia) surf board shaper Nev Hyman constructed a 40 foot surfboard which was a scaled up replica of modern thruster shape. This was in 2005 or 2006? and about 20 people rode the thing at Snapper Rocks/Rainbow Bay. As a standard piece of equipment a few guys in Queensland Australia regularly ride - in all conditions - very big wooden boards. Cameron Byram rides a finless 20'6" 'toothpick'style board with alot of talent. In fact he can turn the thing and has been seen to tuck into barrells when history has always said they can only ride perpindicular to the wave - WRONG. Byram also surfs an 18'3" 75 kilogram timber and glass board with maybe the biggest fin in the world. The board is made by legend surfer/shaper Tom Wegener and is named the Ratu model after Fijian Chiefs. Those guys and their crew also surf 12, 14, 16 & 18 foot boards with and without fins REGULARLY and surf them hard. So, to answer who surfs the biggest board one really needs to nut out what is a novelty and what is seriously ridden. Aloha.

When is the best time to surf Westport Washington?

I've been surfing Westport WA for only 2 years so someone else may have a different opinion. The best waves I've experienced were in late Fall, Winter, and early Spring. The waves can get 2x overhead easy but is often windswept, choppy, and unrideable. Most people at this time ride inside the harbor where the shorter period swells are filtered out and the surf is cleaner. Days of large, clean surf outside the harbor do exist, however, and locals get it best. Water is cold in Winter (about 48 degrees) but air temps can get even lower. Summer surfing is warmer and more comfortable but the waves average waist high with only occasional bigger swells.

What are the adaptations of surf grass?

  • They are adapted to life in a saline medium. Osmoregulation is achieved by specialized epidermal cells and the leaves have no need for stomates, as opposed to terrestrial plants, because all of the gas-exchange is accomplished through the epidermis.
  • Sea grasses have the ability to grow when completely submerged.
  • Surf grass have a successful anchoring system to withstand tidal currents and moderate wave action.
  • Sea grasses are able to reproduce in an aquatic medium. This adaptation called hydrophilly, which is unique to aquatic plants, allows the surf grass to perform both surface and completely submerged pollination.
