What is maternity acupressure and how do you do you do it?

User Avatar
Maternity Acupressure for Childbirth Maternity acupressure method helps to induce labor naturally, when the pregnancy is overdue or the mother is facing the threat of being medically induced. Maternity acupressure is very effective in giving relief from labor pains as well, without slowing down your labor. Maternity acupressure is a very simple hands-on technique. The method involves the application of pressure onto specific, sensitive pressure points on skin called acupressure points. These points are along the human body - on shoulders, hands, back, legs and feet. Maternity acupressure uses fingers and thumbs, as opposed to needles in acupuncture, to stimulate these specific acupressure points to naturally induce labor. During childbirth, maternity acupressure can be used to strengthen contractions and helping the cervix to dilate. Stimulation of other points gives relief from labor pains, and helps to relax and stay calm. Research shows that acupressure techniques significantly shorten the delivery time. Women who use labor acupressure have a two hour shorter delivery time than the average. With basic instructions, you can safely use Maternity acupressure at home to naturally start your labor. Maternity acupressure is a great way for every supporting person to get involved and truly render the best possible help before and during labor and delivery. Although this method is a popular at-home remedy to start labor your self, many midwives and doulas use the technique to help their customers to experience a normal and safe birthing experience.

Asked in Acupuncture, Acupressure, Blackbirds

How long do blackbird eggs take to hatch?

User Avatar
Between 10 and 19 days is commonly quoted amongst birdwatchers but eggs hatched in aviaries invariably take 14 days. While a longer incubation period for eggs laid in habitat could possibly be the result of disturbance, a shorter incubation period than 14 days is exceedingly unlikely.

Can acupressure acupuncture cure psychotic depression like bipolar disorder or schizophrenia?

User Avatar
No. Actually these diseases are quite different from each other, and so far, both are incurable, albeit treatable. Effective treatment is available on the form of specific medicaments (such as lithium and antidepressives for bipolar disorder, and antipsychotics for schizophrenia) plus psychotherapy and supportive therapy. Acupressure and acupuncture are ancient Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques without any proved effects, except in some cases of somatic pain, according to the US National Institutes of Health. Correction, acupuncture is not just for pain, and it HAS been proven to treat mental illness. The World Health Organization deemed acupuncture effective in treating over 40 commonly seen conditions ranging from insomina to HIV/AIDS. It is a 3000 year old healing art that is gaining momentum in the US to be recognized an a powerful alternative healing system to conventional medicine. Is there a way to know how hard to press when using the Reflexology and Acupressure techniques DVD's?

User Avatar
The best way to learn how much pressure to give during a technique is to take a class on reflexology or acupressure, or another option is to make an appointment with a professional and get a treatment. Another way to answer the question is that it should feel good. Even if there is some pain, it may be beneficial as long as it is a good-kind-of-pain.

What is labor acupressure and how is it performed?

User Avatar
Acupressure during labor is very useful in managing labor pains. Acupressure can be used to prepare expectant mother’s body for labor, too. Stimulation of specific acupressure points helps the cervix to ripen and the baby to engage. Some other pressure points stimulate contractions. What is great is that labor acupressure doesn’t overstimulate your body and it’s easy to use. Because acupressure is merely applying pressure on specific spots on your skin, with basic instructions you can use it safely at home to encourage the labor to start naturally. There is at least one step-by-step labor acupressure guide available online at http://www.MaternityAcupressure.com. Not acupuncture, ACUPRESSURE. Through research, I found out that it is when you push different pressure points throughout the body and it is also used to aid in the pain of labor. I would like to know what spots these are so that I may use them while I'm in labor as I do not plan to have any meds administered to me. The acupuncture is the science of placing very special needles at specifice pressure and nerve points. With labor its place to alleviate the pain of birth. Call an acupuncturist in your phone book and ifs there's not one listed look into chiropactors, some of them may know one or perform it themselves.
Asked in Hydrocodone, Acupuncture, Acupressure, Benzodiazepines, Valium

What are the effects of mixing hydrocodone with Valium?

User Avatar
Mixing opiates with Valium is a good way to get dead. A cause of death called "multiple drug intoxication" is what you'll find on the death cert. I lost two good friends to that...they were mixing hydrocodone with diazapam (Valium). It's a crap shoot. If you get the levels high enough, you stop breathing in your sleep. I am just adding on to a very smart persons answer, I just lost my best friend of 20 years THAT WAS NOT A DRUG USER from the same thing. Doesn't have to be very much. Don't mix scripts I am a nurse and have had many surgeries. After surgery I was prescribed Valium and Vicodin to take together. It managed my pain very nicely and I had returned to work already. I did not abuse this and followed the surgeon's orders to the letter. I agree that you should not take or mix medications without a physician's order.

This point is found in the depression in the top 1/3 of the sole of the foot. Pull the toes toward the sole of the foot. Apply the pressure in this depression inwards and upwards towards the big toe. It is very helpful to a woman in labor.

Does acupressure work?

User Avatar
yes it does but it has its own limitations. it is the one of the best available treatment for backache, sciatica pain, periarthritis of shoulder, undiagnosed chronic pain of abdomen, it can help in improving some neurological conditions if used properly and with great care. it is useless in knee pain, infection, malignancy, medical emergency, tennis elbow for smokers. it is a very simple treatment don't get misguided by false claims. it is easy to learn, can help in reducing the number of pain killers people pop. it improves ones general health if used for extended period with some breaks given time to time.
