Has anyone died from ADHD?

My mom has it. It makes her leave the oven on; one day she's going to burn the house down. She has to use the oven timer, or else! And she never knows if she's taken her medicine or not; she has to have a pill box with the days of the week and a watch on that tells her what day today is to function. The nice thing is that coffee seems to be a temporary cure. She drinks it to calm down.

I have heard that people with ADHD are more likely to kill themselves; it has something to do with lack of impulse control. They also have low self esteem because people blame them for the silly things they can't help doing; like locking their keys in the car. You may need OnStar. And if your friends tease you, make them stop or get new ones.

You also need an iron with an automatic shut off. And you need post-it notes! Write reminders to yourself so you can remember to buy that milk on the way home.

People with ADHD are a lot of fun, never boring, very creative, and that energy is very useful when you need work done. My mom is awesome; but sometimes she gets on my nerves interrupting me to show me something neat she found on the web, and I had to teach her to leave me alone when my bedroom door is closed so I wouldn't yell at her and I could finish my homework.

One bad thing is that she would forget when her boyfriends were mean to her. I hated that. It seemed like she should keep a diary or something, so she would know when to dump the guys. It was handy for me, because she would forget I was grounded! So, if someone says "Do you remember?" and you really can't; just get them to tell you about it. With enough details, it usually comes back.

Uh, keep a list of books you've read so you don't buy them again when they come out with a new cover. If you read as much as she does; and she can hyper-focus on reading, that will save you a lot of money.

My mom is 42, she's alive and well, and I think you will be fine too. It just takes some extra work to cope with the absent mindedness.

Can a person with ADHD compete in WWE?

Sure, Vince McMahon, Matt Morgan and Maria Kanellis admitted they have it, and i reckon many other wrestlers do. And since wrestling is a highly stimulating environment, you can make ADHD work to your advantage. They have a drug free policy, but some can still take ADHD meds if they can prove that it's a longtime prescription drug, that they really need it, and it's not to boost their performances. I know Maria has the OK to take them, not sure if she's the only one.

How to mother a 14 year old boy?

  • Generally 14 year old boys are in that awkward stage of hormonal changes where they are part boy and part man and often the 14 year old will feel awkward if someone tries to mother them; hug or kiss them, etc. It is far better to treat a 14 year old by looking up at them and not down because of their age. Talking calmly and telling stories of your own life that may make him laugh or realize you were young once is far more entertaining and more apt to begin a relationship together as is doing things together or, attending any sports he may be in. 14 year olds are fighting hard to become adults so show some affection by being interested in things they do, but keep the affection to 'well done and I'm so proud of you' to being interested in some of the things he likes.

What is normal weight 6 year old girl?

it will depend on the height of a child. my daughter is incredibly AVERAGE for her height, she is 120cm and weighs 20 kgs so shes on the skinny side. However her big sister was 130 cms at the same age, and weighed 30 kgs which was still a good weight for her height (Shes also a bigger structured girl)

Does ADD go away?

Eventually it reduces in maturity.however it lingers for a long time and the habits it instils in the mind are also hard to shake.

What stimulates ADHD?

ADD is where you cannot focus or stay organized or be on time or remember where you put things. You tend to be mellow, sometimes reserved, a reader-studier-writer-you like puzzles-movies. ADHD is the above but with a hyper aspect to it. You feel like you are bouncing of the walls and when you are younger you really do bounce jump, climb, hop, fidget, poke, tease.....you have a hard time with reading, writing, anything that requires concentration or being still is almost impossible. What stimulates it is typically food allergies. I am not ADD or ADHD but I am the daughter of a ADHD mother, I have two brothers that are ADHD, I was married to a man with ADHD and I have a son that has ADHD. So without having it I know ADHD first hand. My son is extremely allergic to all dairy. If he has a yogurt or a piece of cheese and he goes from mellow to hyper in a minute. My mom is allergic to dairy. My brother is allergic to potatoes. Odd but true. But there are other triggers too. If you get too hungry or do not eat enough protein you will get irritable and cranky. Boredom, you need to be constantly doing something. It is usually something physical, reading is not something that you have the patience for. Hyperactivity sufferers many times turn to drugs to even out how they feel and the hyperness they feel in their head. If they do not turn to drugs or alcohol many times they will self medicate with sugar & caffeine. It is a cycle of high and low. When you feel low you will eat/drink something high in sugar and/or caffeine to get that high and then when you get that low again you use sugar or caffeine What helps? Find out what you are allergic to and stay away from those foods. Eat really healthy and eat often. Smaller meals every two or so hours and that will help keep the highs and lows even. Limit sugar and caffeine. Also check if you are low in any cell salts as many times ADHD sufferers crave salt because they are low in one.

If you find yourself forgetting where you put your belonging's as well as spacing out either in class or while driving do you have ADHD?

Possibly.

Fairly recently a second type of ADD became accepted by the medical community. This is type II or Daydreamer. There is less H - hyperactivity involved and people who have it tend not to get into trouble in school. Therefore they (including many women) or we never were diagnosed as children. I was 37 when someone finally figured it out.

I have the same symptoms you describe. I forget where I put everything: keys, wallet, etc. And while looking for my keys I set my wallet down and then have to go looking for it after I find the keys. It would take me a long time to leave my apartment on some days.

I daydream or "space our" constantly, even walking down the sidewalk I often trip over the curb as my mind is somewhere else.

Only a medical professional can properly diagnose the condition and make sure you go to an ADD specialist who is aware of all the new research findings.

A few other symptoms I shall list:

1. impulsive nature
2. thrill seeking behavior: drugs, gambling, dangerous sports
3. function well under deadlines
4. procrastination and disorganized
5. And the big indicator, oddly enough, is the ability to hyperfocus on occasion. That is to completely become completely absorbed in a single task for an hour or more oblivious to anything else happening around you.

ADD or ADHD is technically incorrectly termed. The actual condition is not attention deficit; rather a lack of control of attention mechanism. The hyperfocus state occurs at unpredictable moments just the same as spacing out.

So, if you have experienced moments of hyperfocus, chances are likely ADD is involved.

Again, the only way to know for sure is to consult a medical professional - which I am not.

Is ADHD recessive?

ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is not considered a purely recessive condition, as it is influenced by a combination of genetic, environmental, and neurobiological factors. While there is a hereditary component, with a higher likelihood of ADHD in individuals who have family members with the disorder, it does not follow simple Mendelian inheritance patterns. Instead, multiple genes may contribute to its development, interacting with environmental factors to increase risk. Thus, ADHD is best understood as a complex trait rather than a straightforward genetic disorder.

Does ADHD cause physical problems?

ADHD itself does not directly cause physical problems, but it can lead to challenges that may impact physical health. For instance, individuals with ADHD may struggle with impulsivity and inattention, which can result in accidents or injuries. Additionally, they may have difficulty maintaining routines that promote physical health, such as regular exercise or a balanced diet, potentially leading to secondary health issues over time. Managing ADHD effectively can help mitigate these risks.

Is atenolol a ADHD medication?

The worst thing you can do to a child with a high-functionality neurological disorder is medicate them for it. The children with those disorders that grow up to be champions of intellect and industry are the ones who had to learn to cope with it. No matter how tedious that might be, that energy can do great things, if only one can learn to channel it. That can't happen when the subject is on medication. It puts them in a different, dreamlike world, almost apathetic to what goes on around them.

How many students with ADHD are currently being served in the united states?

As of recent estimates, approximately 6.1 million children in the United States have been diagnosed with ADHD, which is about 9.4% of the youth population. Of these, many receive services through schools, special education programs, or mental health resources. However, exact numbers can vary based on definitions and reporting practices, so comprehensive statistics are often challenging to pinpoint.
