Why is my child excessively thirsty and his urine clear?

You may have a child with the early symptoms of diabetes. Possibly a thyroid condition. Of course, it could also be she is simply short on important electrolytes--that is, salt and potassium and a few other minerals.

Whatever the case might be, I'd take her to her pediatrician and work with her to find out what the case truly is. Carefully describe to the doctor all of your kid's symptoms, including the context(s) in which you see them: always at night/on waking up/after or just before meals?; only after eating sweet foods, including fruits?; does exercise or sedentary behavior bring on, or possibly delay, these bouts of thirst and urination?

Good luck, and get her checked out!

Is hyperactivity adhd?

Not necessarily. hyperactivity is a part of ADHD but hyperactivity it self is not adhd. This must be diagnosed by a medical professional and the subject may have adhd or is just a hyper type of person.

Is Strattera a good ADD medication?

Yes. Strattera is effective in about 60% of patients who take it. This is in comparison with methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta, etc) and Adderall, which are effective in about 85% of the patients who take them. There are advantages to Strattera: It isn't addictive, it can be prescribed with refills, and it works 24 hours a day. There are disadvantages to Strattera: It takes several weeks to reach its maximal effect. There are advantages to the stimulant medications (Ritalin, Adderall, etc): They work almost immediately, they decrease appetite (an advantage in the obese patient with ADD). There are disadvantages to the stimulant medications: They cause decreased appetite (a disadvantage for children who are not overweight), they cause insomnia, they can make the patient jittery, and they don't last all day. Also, they cannot be prescribed with refills, so the patient has to pick up a new prescription at the doctor's office every month.

Does equasym XL cause mood swings?

All ADHD/ADD medication will cause mood changes due to the neuro-biological effect that they are having, usually straight after the drug has taken effect and when it is wearing off. But they all affect people differently, e.g ritalin (methyphenidate hydro-chloride) is my preferred choice. Equasym, is just thats chemical but in a modified release capsule so it lasts longer and is less extreme.

My advice would be to try and find a medication that fits your schedule, so long as your mood doesn't change too dramatically, you should be ok.

Are there any ADHD treatment centers that specialize in adults?

Most Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) treatment centers offer services for both adults and younger patients. ADHD is characterized by an inability to concentrate, restlessness, and disorderly work habits.

Do you think those diagnosed with ADHD need medication or just plain old fashioned discipline?

I appreciate your answer and please don't be offended with my words - but what about a child who just doesn't like to do homework - what about the child who just refuses to do as asked - the child who is a child - the child who gets in trouble with police because she/he is rebelling - these are all behaviours I tried as a child (plus a whole heap more) and didn't have a government backing me up to say I could take my parents to court if they tried to discipline me. Therefore I conformed to my parents wishes - eventually - and in others I didn't. But I certainly didn't have adhd/add, etc.

Would really appreciate your opinion

ADDKids and adults who have ADD need medication. There is a misconception especially in kids that ADD behavior can appear as a lack of discipline. However this is not always the case because kids with ADD exhibit behaviors associated with it mostly all the time. There is also a debate as to whether ADD medication actually works. For me, it did. And it still does. If you think your child has ADD have him/her PROPERLY evaluated by a doctor. Remember, kids and adults with ADD cannot do most tasks for extended perios of time, such as homework.

I have ADD and am speaking from experience.. you have to take both these views and put them together. I am 15.. My parents definitely punish me for things to do with drinking and normal teenager stuff that we arent meant to do. I think this is important since ADD/ADHD kids have a high tendency to get addicted to things but when it comes to things like finishing schoolwork or staying tidy or organised.. do not be harsh.. my mom and I are constantly battling about my room and my messiness.. she takes it as me being lazy but I cant help it. and for schoolwork.. don't be too mad or dissapointed but be there to work as a team with your kid.. otherwise they will just lie to you about whether or not they have handed in assignment or stuff like that.. meds definitely help people with add/adhd.. i highly recommend looking into this. it has changed my life.

What is your definition of Nature Deficit Disorder?

Nature Deficit Disorder is a term coined by Richard Louv in his book "Last Child In the Woods." It represents the set of adverse consequences that result from lack of access to nature. These include short attention span, lack of understanding of natural phenomena (including physics), and stress.

When are most cases of ADHD diagnosed?

Most cases of ADHD are diagnosed in the early school years; there is numerous new expectations that a child with ADHD would have trouble following like taking turns, remaining seated, and not disrupting the classroom. Also, there is increased observation of a child in the school environment, so a teacher or other school official could recommend a doctor visit.

In some cases, ADHD is diagnosed in the teenage years. This is more common with the inattentive subtype; lack of focus becomes much more apparent with the increase of responsibilities and commitments in the teenage years.

Does Vicodin work for people with ADHD?

Well I does for me in a big way. I never take medicine maybe once every few years... however i noticed that after i had some dental work years back the doc prescribed vicodin for pain. I didn't take it initially but i developed dry-socket which is painful as hell.

So i took it... After getting thru the dry socket pain i was at the last bit of recovery and really wasn't in that much pain so i took another vicodin while i was normal... Man you talk about energy, focus and drive.. i had it... I was able to accomplish everything i wanted to accomplish, i felt far more focused and enjoyed doing what i was doing(A calm euphoria for me)... I was expecting some sort of side effect but i could not find anything strange at all. I came on gently and wore off invisibly for me.

Allot of people say this stuff should make you sleepy... it does not at all for me... and because of the lack of side effects i can clearly see how people would become addicted to this stuff.

So the bottom line is in the last 4 years I've taken a vicodin pill twice when i didn't need to.... and this was only in desperate times in which i needed to focus and get things done and it has worked every time.

My wife knows this and we joke about it because i always have opposite reactions to most medications and that's why i refuse to take anything (aspiring, Tylenol, allergy... i take nothing)...

that said i wish that this was a legal medication for my "Closet" adhd because i could definitely be convinced to take this and i would be about 50 to 75% more productive if I did. However i don't know anything about the long term usage and whether or not it would remain as effective as it is with routine use.

When was attention deficit disorder first discovered?

Some say it goes all the back to Ancient greece. Certainly any analysis of Ben Franklin would have screamed he's not right, lol

Does melatonin help treat ADHD?

No, not exclusively; however one study has concluded that it decreased the time to fall asleep when taken with methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta).

Should you go to a family physician or a psychologist for diagnosis and treatment of ADHD?

Diazapam used to treat ADHD sufferers?

Valium (diazepam) is a powerful neural depressant, used for severe anxiety and panic disorders and as a sedatitive. There's no reason for it to be used with adhd.

Is attention deficit disorder an eligible disability?

yes, but it has to fulfill ALL 3 of the criteria over a certain percentage.

You think your 4 year old has adhd how do you get it confirmed?

A psychologist can make a test with him. That´s how I found out my son had adh. Over here is a hospital which is specialized of adhd / adh, they also make tests. Maybe there is one hospital near your place also. If you can´t find it out, ask your doc. He should know where you can go.

My doctor prescribed Adderall XR30mg 2 months ago because I have ADHD. Now she added Prozac 10mg because I am going through depression due to my mothers death. Is this combo ok and what will I feel?

wow...this is so funny because i had the worst experience with my life involving both of these drugs about two summers ago...

reach me at furl_123@yahoo.com for any other questions but..here's the deal

I'm allegedly supposed to be on adderall but since i have no way to pay for medicine a friend of mine would just give me hers, and I'm also "supposed to be on Prozac" as well. and that same friend just happened to be just like me but with insurance!!! well i started taking the adderall xr30 mg (small world huh) and it worked pretty great, my mind wouldn't wander off in class as much and i still had the energy to focus on the b.s. that the American public education system crams down your throat. Then I started taking the Prozac as well, and The mix was the best thing ever, i felt as if i were in a great mood but not a false euphoria like from drugs, funny thing is they're both drugs..LAugh! well any way 3 months into it she stopped getting her meds and i was okay with that. little did I know my body had become used to being full of these drugs and i had an 8 hour panic attack known as akathisia...Impending sense of doom, you can't sit still and you think you're going to die..also the sensation of tiny needles poking you from the inside and out...now don't worry about this with the adderall just worry about it with the Prozac..as most ssrid drugs are known for this suicidal side affect!! but you have a doctor so you shouldn't have to worry about not getting your meds...............!!!!!!! OH and i also don't agree with ssri drugs at not since then...I've also melted most the serotonin out of my brain due to excessive crystal meth and ecstacy use (had to stop,it's bad for you)...so i hope you're way smarter than i am and don't partake in those things..OR atleast can handle depression like a soldier!

PS..being BI-POlar is for gangsters

, THUG LIFE!!!yay-yay

Not going to edit the above answer, but I will say this is not the main reason to avoid this combination. Both these medications directly and indirectly affect your heart. Taking them together can result in heart attack. Not many general doctors are aware of or appreciate this fact. Mostly because it is not deadly for everyone. However, the best two options are to either (1) completely stop taking adderall--Prozac can actually help with ADHD symptoms alone and although is not as affective, you will not need the medication as much or (2) at least fall back to a much lower dose. 30 mg is very high. You probably experience anxiety a lot and this is partially induced by the drug. You're anxiety (which can be part of depression) will improve on a lower dose (or off!)

How is narcissism related to Attention Deficit Disorder?

They are related only in the sense that either can inhibit social interactions. Narcissism is defined as "vanity" or "egotism", which is considered a character flaw. ADD or ADHD is a neurological disorder that causes inattention, lack of concentration, and/or hyperactivity, especially in children.
