Is anyone taking a stimulant and a nonstimulant together for ADHD if so what combos are you taking?
My daughter is 11 and she takes a combination of Metadate CD and Strattera. Last summer we tried her on Strattera alone, we liked the 24 hour effectiveness and it seemed to help with her impulsiveness and mood, but when school started back, she still couldn't focus enough to study and do her school work. She would tell me she was daydreaming in class, and the other kids talking bothered her when she was trying to read or listen to the instructor, so her doctor, who is a child psychiatrist suggested we try them together. As we increased the dosage of one, we lowered the dosage of the other until we were satisfied that she could concentrate in class during the day at the lowest possible stimulant level. Again this summer we have taken her off of the Metadate CD and when school starts back we will give her a couple of weeks and then decide if we need to add it back in. My hope is that as she gets older she can learn to control her distractability and focus better so she can stay off the the stimulant medication forever. It is certainly worth talking to your doctor about. Good luck.
Can you use adderall xr and Strattera together to treat ADHD?
It is an extremely horrible combination. I did the same 3 years ago because I wanted the effects of both. I ended up being a walking zombie I was so sedated. I lost 30 pounds and felt like I wasn't living my life at all and had suicidal thoughts....DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS. I am majoring in Psych for this reason... ADHD is commonly diagnosed because doctors don't have the "time" it takes to accurately figure out the real issue. I was improperly "drugged" with ADHD meds from 18 to 22. I went fromg gaining 40 pds to loosing 30 in 2 months, then hospitalized for anemia. Just to find out what I had been saying for years...no it has to be something else, I know my body better than anyone. I started researching and found out that I was a little manic depressive. I took this diagnosis to thde last psychiatrist (3) and we as a team discovered that in fact I was correct and finally diagnosed with mild to moderate bi-polar disorder. Do not trust in doctors, know your body. Until a child can speak and know how they are feeling please do not drug them up unnecessarily.

ADHD is common in all ages....in my opionin you cant truly tell if someone suffers from ADHD until they have completely matured. this disorder is often diagnosed into young kids that have bad attitudes or crazy adventurous kids. Therefore it is very often misdiagnosed as small children do not have the maturity levels to understand things or pay attention to them for very long.

I was taking 20mg XR of Adderall twice daily. When my insurance and my doctor changed, I asked for generic which did not come as XR. I found the non-extended release provided what I can only describe as a cleaner effect for my ADHD symptoms. I was allowed 20mg three times per day. It worked exceptionally for me. I won't go back to the XR; but everyone is different. Please give the non-XR a month and see how you feel.

How can you tell if your kid has ADHD?
There is only one way to be 100% sure and that is to have him/her tested. Some kids are very sensitive to certain types of food and reacts strongly to too much sugar which makes them bounce around and not listen so you can never be really sure without the tests. And don't wait. The sooner you have the result the sooner the child can get help and learn so much about him/herself. Many feel inadequate in school and life when they don't need to.
You need to speak to your pyschiatrist. Maybe seroquel would help - it is fast acting. Therre are many SSRI's,so you may need to switch to another one that is effective.
It's not ADD. It could be one or more of the following & I'm very familiar with this behavior:
1-immaturity
2-manipulation
3-stupidity
Now, the twisting things around is manipulation. he's trying to confuse you. stay focused on the subject at hand. for example, say, you're in a fight with him b/c he disrespected your mother. he might say something like "well, when I was a kid my mom always.." just keep repeating "what does this have to do with the fact that you disrespected my mother?" keep focused on the problem at hand...not all the other stuff he brings in to confuse you.
He will get mad that you're focused...the goal is to confuse you.
stay focused, repeat what he says and ask him to be more specific. he can't be specific if he's trying to manipulate, pay very close attention to the words he uses. is he using words by their proper definition? or is he slightly modifying their definition within the context?
if you listen closely, you'll find he makes no sense at all, not even to himself.
BE WARNED: once they know you can see through the smoke ...THEY WILL TAKE OFF!
IMPORTANT NOTE: if you leave many conflicts with him totally confused by what just went down, he is manipulating you.
My mantra is this: if I don't understand it, it makes no sense.
or, honey, he could be just plain stupid.
