I have done research on my family and it's medical history and found evidence of depression - alcoholism and suicides - in every single part of my family tree. Of course, I'm not saying that all of my family members suffer from an emotional or behavioral disorder. It's just that there have turned out to be an alarming number who do or had throughout several generations. ADD/ADHD is a relatively 'new' disorder compared to depression. Yet I have been diagnosed with adult ADD and I acknowledge that I have had to deal with it all of my life. My grandmother has told me of some of my father's behavior when he was young that fit the profile. And now, unfortunately, I am afraid I am seeing it in my son AND my oldest niece. It is genetic. But fortunately, this doesn't mean your children /will/ suffer from it, only that there is a chance of it. And thankfully, there is now help for kids with ADD/ADHD. It truly is miserable for a bright, intelligent, creative child to have to suffer so. And there are new treatments being made available all of the time, thank God.

Most doctors now will say that ADHD is a disease, but some stubborn conventional doctors still say that ADHD isn't a disease but a personality, or that it doesn't exist. So I guess asking from the pulpit next Sunday is not an option? How about sending her a card or slipping one to her at some point? Don't think you are any different from every other 15 year old guy. They are all nervous the first few times. She might say no, but so what? Everyone gets told no some of the time, that shouldn't stop you from asking. You say you have known her for 5 years. Talked to her or been around her in a group? That means she is aware of you also. It's not like you are coming in cold with no previous contact. You both go to the same church so possibly you have friends in common? Go by her house before or after church if possible. That means you have to go through the parents, but you will have to do that at some point anyway. Get your courage up, hold your head up, and go for it. You will never know until you try.

A.D.D. is not always "hyper" activity too. ADDHD includes the hyper activity level. A.D.D is simply the inability to concentrate on something for a long period of time, easily distracted. A person could be working on something and suddenly they're off on another issue or problem or job and walk away from the first one. That is the most common effect of A.D.D. Some who have HD with the ADD can also have sleep disorders and can sometimes be underweight as they are constantly on the go.

The effects of marijuana in the ADHD population has not been fulled studied or determined. However, other clinical studies provide evidence that marijuana increases memory-related loss which could worsen existing ADHD symptoms. On the contrary, in some cases doctors have prescribed marijuana (where legal) for ADHD.

This I'm not sure, but i do know that Focalain is a narcotic, and can only be prescribed every month, never more than that at a time. I'm sure different Dr's have different opinions...

You do not want to put a dog on ADHD medication. All puppies are hyper, some more than others, but none the less, they are all hyper. The best thing to do would just be to teach it not to be hyper. You mentioned that you have had the other labs trained, but if you train this puppy without a 'professional' puppy trainer then my advice is to say 'no' and use a squirt bottle and squirt him with a bit of water. He then associates 'no' with it, so then he knows no means bad. If he gets hyper, tell him no and use it whenever he gets excedingly hyper.

Where I work it depends on the context. Not sure if it's an actual grammar/style rule. We capitalize it if it's a specific diagnosis but not as a general term. Also it should be written as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (according to the DSM-IV-TR).

Yes, however some medications used for ADHD would violate the anti-performance enhancing drugs rules that govern most professional sports. A sport cannot prohibit your participation if you have a disorder due to anti-discriminatory laws; it however can prohibit certain drugs.
