Adderall XR is an extended release form of an amphetamine medication most commonly prescribed for ADHD. It's notorious for its abuse among college students as a "study drug" but is very effective in managing legitimate ADHD. What could cause delayed effects or onset of medications?

just a little more info..

What could cause a 2-3 hour delayed onset of effects from Adderall or Restoril? or any medication ?

I've been on the same medications and the same dosages for over a 2 years:

Cymbalta 60 mg - 7am

Adderall XR 20 mg - 7am

Adderall IR 10mg - 3pm

Restoril (temazapam) 30mg - 10pm

On Saturday's I sometimes take the Adderall later in the day, and skip the Restoril because I like to be awake later on the weekends I don't have work, but on the weekdays i stick to the above schedule.

My issue if that what seems like all of a sudden (about 2 weeks ago), I've noticed delayed reactions to my medications. For example, I normally start feeling the effect of the Adderall 30 to 60 minutes within taking it, but for the last 2 weeks it doesn't seem to kick in for almost 3 hours. As for the temazapam, I usually take it around 10pm, start getting sleepy around 11, and am totally passed out by 11:30. Nevertheless, the past 2 weeks i don't start feeling tired until around 12, and cant seem to get to sleep until the earliest 1pm.

Now i know both of these medications can loose their effectiveness over time but that does not seem to be the issue. The issue I am getting delayed reactions to them, and this did not seem to be something that slowly developed over time. And now because of all this my sleep pattern is a mess and i'm tired all the time when i'm not supposed to be, and wide awake why i should be tired.

adderall xr kicks in late = i feel tired in the morning

adderall ir kicks in late = i feel tired in the afternoon and wide awake at night

restoril kicks in late = i cant fall asleep or get up in time in the morning

could this be a metabolism issue? i haven't changed my exercise routine or diet, and i cant think of an other thing that would change my metabolism this drastically in such a short period of time

could this be related to another/new medical issue?

Is 25mg adderall xr to much to start off?

If you are taking adderall for the first time, I advise starting with a lower dose. While this dose is safe, it is best to start with the lowest effective dose possible as you will eventually need to increase your dosing with prolonged use. Consult with your physician if you have any concerns. If you do not have this prescribed, do not take it if you have any heart conditions. Do not mix with caffeine or other stimulants.

If you took 10mg of Adderall once yesterday around noon will it show up in a drug test today after noon?

More than likely YES it will show up in a drug test. It takes about 72 hours before amphetamines are out of your system. This also applies to cocaine, opiates, MDMA, etc. since the metabolites of these drugs are water-soluble. This number is not set in stone and depends on your body and its ability to eliminate the drug. 10 mg is not a lot of adderall so may be it is not enough to induce a positive reading on a drug test. Hopefully that is the case and you will be in the clear. Good luck.

Is it normal for a 7 year old boy with autism and severe ADHD who has just started taking adderall 5 mg daily to have the side effect of being very emotional?

A: The "normal" effects on children when referring to Adderall should in fact be calming, and focusing. Your child shouldn't be an emotional wreck when taking Adderall. You need to talk to your doctor about the sudden abnormal side effects the Adderall is causing, because sometimes it causes suicidal thoughts and worsens unknown psychological illnesses. They will probably switch your child to a non-stimulant medication such as Strattera. And another thing perhaps the reason that the Adderall is acting adversely could be that he is also autistic. Because in that case the Adderall would definetly worsen the autism.

Should i decrease dosage of Adderall slowly?

Unless you have specific instructions to do so by your physician, you should NOT reduce the dosage of ANY medication unless directed by a doctor. Serious side effects can occur if you do not follow your doctor's instructions on taking a medication, especially a brain chemical balancing medication such as adderall.

What if your son weighs 240 lbs. how many pills a day can he take of adderall xr?

Realistically weight should not be as much of an issue as you might think with regards to a powerful psycho stimulant, such as Adderall. Even with an extremely long period of medication having occured, at the very most a single 30mg. That is, having built up the medication from a lower dose up. 30mg would almost never be initially prescribed in a realistic situation (aka not a "shopping doctor") 30 mg is a potent amount and the highest dose manufactured, with 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 mg doses made generically/depending on location.

Does adderall make you twitch?

It gives me more of the shivers rather than a twitch, but being a high stimulant amphetamine I could very well see if giving you the twitches. If they become to much, or to uncomfortable, then you may consider talking to your doctor.

Why does Adderall effects weaken after years of taking it?

Since medications are dosed based on your weight, it is possible that if you have been taking medication for several years without careful monitoring from a physician, that while your dose has remained the same, you are actually getting a less concentrated dose due to your larger size (if you are younger, this weight gain is pretty much inevitable, if you are older, and you are like most Americans, you may gain as many as 1 or 2 lbs. per year (hence our obesity rates are soaring). It is likely that other factors might explain this too. On the other hand, I am not aware of any data that suggest that this phenomena is inevitable or that it is even widespread. Too, there is a neutransmitter phenomenon known as receptor "down-regulation"... In theory, if a particular neurotranmitter remains at high levels over an extended period, the brain adapts by reducing the number of receptor sites and thus blunting the impact of the medication. I don't know if this phenomena has been documented with stimulants, but I do believe that it may have been observed with the opiates.

How do you lower Adderall levels in your system rapidly?

Vigorous exercise works for me, therefore I try to wait until after I exercise before I take my afternoon dose. Don't know if the actual adderall "level" is lowered by exercise, all I know is that it is much less effective for me after exercising.

Is too much NyQuil dangerous to your unborn child?

Olive oil is perfectly ok, in fact, the essential fatty acids may play a positive role on the devolpment of the child. Nyquil can because harmful not because of the slight alcohol (more alcohol in most fruit than a serving of Nyquil) but from the adverse effects from the drugs inside of it. It contains an antihistamine, cough suppressant (Dextromethorphan) and a NSAID. Nyquil also contains sugar which is something else to avoid while pregnant. Call your doctor and discuss this with him/her also. Don't take Nyquil anymore

What can focalin do to a normal person?

Normal Person? Stimulants like focalin or adderall effect EVERYONE the same, even if you have ADD/ADHD. Focalin is the D isomer of MethylPhenidate. MethylPhenidate is structurally similar to Cocaine, the effects when snorted also act like a average grade dose of cocaine. Taking it orally will work much like cocaine just less of a rush. If you're looking for a ADHD drug "high", I would look more into Adderall (Amphetamine).
