Where can you go for help if you don't approve of Alcoholic's Anonymous?

The Sinclair Method is a great alternative to AA. Read about it at www.sinclairmethod.com . It has helped me tremendously! A great program! CELEBRATE RECOVERY MEETINGS Only God can remove the desire to drink, once one has become an alcoholic & is is clearly out-of-control. AA relies on a Higher Power; "Celebrate Recovery" meetings rely on Jesus the Christ, Who Can and Will deliver you from your addiction only if you trust Him and believe. AA has been around for a long time and done a lot of good for thousands of alcoholics. The reason you don't like it is you don't like being told how to lead your life and you're in a denial mode. There is only one other way you can do this (I have a friend going through it.) See your doctor and he/she can give you medications that will help the side effects of coming off alcohol (DTs). It does help! Also vitamin Bs are a great help in combating addiction to alcohol. Then go to a Detox Center for help. You can sign yourself in, but also leave. You DO need AA and they are a great back-up system when you feel you want a drink. Unless you feel you are out of your denial mode and start listening to these people (they have been through it themselves) then don't waste their time! Good luck!

IMPORTANT BUSINESS It is important that You seek the advice of your doctor before Detoxing

or making any changes yourself... Without the fellowship of Alchoholics Anonymous many people would have died needlessly If you have a desire to be honest and realise the seriousness of Alcoholism...People think that they are unique and decide that a certain treatment is not for them...Alcohlism is realised as an illness and untreated the condition will get worse...The help is there to get well and it may not be as hard as you think to do...AA supplies the tools to help Your recovery from a life threatening illness...It is realised that the person must have a desire to give up drinking first...If you are not ready to give up drinking then there is more drunken hell waiting for You at the next Bar... You don't believe in AA because you aren't serious about stopping drinking! You know if you go then it's a responsibility on your part to admit you are an alcoholic and seek their help and encouragement and attend meetings. As the above poster stated AA has been around for a long while and I know they have helped thousands of people get through tough times. You know what you have to do, so, if you have to wait a little to find the right time to do so then that's the way it is, but AA is the best place for help. I doubt you could afford the Betty Ford Clinic. Quitting alcohol is much like quitting smoking and everyone has to find their time to quit. I don't think you are committed enough right now. Don't give up!

Is Denial is a very strong defense mechanism used by people who abuse alcohol and drugs?

Yes. Common forms of denial are:

  • Denial of the existence of a problem. (Hey, it's no big deal, the cop had it in for me.)
  • Denying the signicance of the problem (Hey, I got careless. Anyone can have one too many now and then.))
  • Denial of the options available (Hey, I can't go to AA! What if someone saw me?)
  • Denial of your personal ability to change (Hey, everyone in my family drinks. I'd never fit in again if I quit!)
  • Denying the time urgency (Hey, I'm young. Plenty of time to settle down after I've had some fun.)

How can you help to a heroin addict?

You cant help someone who doesnt want help. When you are constantly chasing the high there is nothing compared.

You need to hit rock bottem first and he needs to come to terms with his addiction and problem.

Being in the situation as your son myself for a year straight hitting half a gram a day, the best advice is love him, talk to him about it, offer a safe place. Dont give him money and make sure you lock up your valuables because when you are hanging out and your body is hurting and craving sometimes you want stop at nothing.

this is a hard one. Good luck I wish you and your son all the best.

He will get sick of chasing the high one day we just have to hope it doesn't get the best of him first.

How can you get rid of your attitude problems?

We suggest searching for a program that allows you to deal with whatever issues might be causing the attitudes -- whatever they may be. Such things are usually defenses that have arisen at some point in life, but may no longer be useful. Nonetheless, they remain with us until we dig out the underlying reasons and deal with them.

Group therapy is very useful in such situations. Perhaps you could contact your local mental health association for referrals. We do not mean to imply that you are mentally ill, but merely that those are the folks who will have the information you need.

If you are involved in a 12-step program, working the steps will help. You might also be able to find a group through a local treatment facility.

Can you become an assassin?

well to become an assassin first you would have to buy something to kill with. it could be anything from a gun to a butter knife( i would not use that though because it is really messy). then you have to find someone to kill. An enemy is a good place to start. then you have to figure out where to kill them. if you have some kong-fu skills that would be a benifit if your plan goes worng. And last don't let them know!!!!!!!!!!!! When it comes time to kill them sneek up on them and kill them!!!!!!!!

Zax do go home tonight! i know were you live!!!

Why am I addicted to putting on baby powder.?

I wonder if you are using the wrong word. Being addicted means that you cannot stay away from whatever it is you are addicted to like drugs or tobacco.

Are you saying that you cannot possibly not put on baby powder at all? Is is one particular baby powder or just any.

You might like the scent, or it might feel cooling to your body. I would not call it addictive however, unless you can say yes, to the question asked above. Addictions are compulsive behaviour and as such probably need looking into. I was first attracted to this question since baby powder may be dangerous for you to be using to excess and even using at all. Have a look at the ingredients on the container. If you see that there is talc inside then you should safely dispose of all your supply in the garbage and never use it again. Talc has been shown to have effects like asbestos when inhaled or when it gets inside our bodies. In other words there is a strong possibility that it is carcinogenic and in some countries the talc has been replaced by starch. The FDA has not outlawed it but if you look it up on the internet you will find a lot of controversy around the subject and you will obviously draw your own conclusions and maybe err on the safe side. If you are a woman - even more care should be taken - talc has been found in women's ovaries and there is a strong connection with ovarian cancer. If this does not convince you to give up your 'addiction' then probably nothing will.
