What are the two types of addictions?

This question is worded poorly, but the answer is this:

1. Physical Addiction is when a drug user suffers physical effects when deprived of the drug. This is recognized as withdrawal. An example would be when a person who has been taking opiates daily and then ceases their intake, they will experience tremors, nausea, runny nose, watering eyes, decreased appetite, diarrhea, increased urination, hyper-sensitivity to pain, weak muscular function and hot/cold flashes.

2. Psychological Addiction boils down to metal effects of ceasing drug use. A drug user does not have to be a regular user or someone who goes through physical withdrawal to experience psychological effects when deprived of a drug. The feelings associated with this addiction can range from person to person. Some common effects are intense cravings for a particular drug, hyperactivity, laziness, mild to severe depression, anxiety, fatigue, foggy thinking and constant changing of mood (feeling happy one minute, then extremely sad the next).

All this being said, I've been addicted to oxycodone for 2 years and have experienced all these effects of addiction. They are awful, but my addiction (and many other peoples) continues to cause me to rationalize and continue my drug use, mostly because I continue to use oxycodone to avoid these withdrawal effects instead of detoxing and quitting. I wouldn't wish it on anybody.

What is the difference between addiction and abuse?

Abusers can stop using with relatively little discomfort. Addicts find quitting extremely difficult for both physical and psychological reasons.

Abusing a drug means you are not taking the way it was prescribed and/or not for the reasons it was prescribed. Most abusers abuse for fun or to experiment. Addicts NEED the drug physically and psychologically. They are dependent on the drug in every aspect of their lives.

How do you tell your friends and family that you are dating a recovering drug addict if you have accepted this person into your life and all is going well?

My suggestion would be to not tell your friends and family members about this recovering drug addict until he fully recovers. Your friends and family would be more accepting and understanding if the person you were dating is now in good shape and is not still in need of professional help. It's a bad idea to tell you family and friends , " the guy I'm dating has problems and hes' a recovering drug addict ". It's just a turn off. But try to be careful around these people. Just because a person is recovering it doesn't mean they're cured of their problems.

Why are teens more easily addicted to tobacco than adults?

To smoke, however, is to be with the in crowd-cool, grown-up, sophisticated. By smoking, teenagers feel independent, whereas in fact they are capitulating to peer pressure. They are also being manipulated by the tobacco companies. The companies know that their future is with the youth. If youths can be made addicts in their teens, they will likely be good customers for life.

Is it possible for a person to become addicted to physical and sexual and self-abuse?

Yes it is. For some people they are predestined to be this way, while others can learn this behavior from the environment they are in. Abusive partners whether it be physical, mental or sexual, weave their web well and they are just great at brain-washing their victims. While some victims feel intimidated, frightened and feel they have no strength to leave their circumstances, others will stay out of sheer stubbornness or perhaps because they fear they could lose their children, property, etc., if they leave and a few love to live a life of constant drama. Some will stay and comply to the abuser, but, a few will hold their anger in only so long and then all hell will hit the fan. If they can't take it out on their abuser they may harm their children or others around them. When someone has been brain-washed into a routine of S&M, physical beatings, or mental abuse it will take psychological counseling to undo the harm that has been done to the victim. The victim, if lucky, may leave those circumstances and feel once they do all is well, but it isn't. The mental scars from the above 3 circumstances are still there and will sneak out every so often and can cause depression, lethargy, and rage towards others.

Can you take Suboxone after 12 hours of taking a roxi and dont have withdrawls due to short term use of opiates and has not yet become physical?

Yes- atleast I have done it. It was more like 12-18 hours in between. I took 2-3 roxys in about 1 and 1/2 days bc of a severe abscess tooth causing me unbearable pain. After my last roxys i sort of just took it easy.. Slept it off and then took my sub as usual. But im thinking it wasnt too bad based on the short term use of the opiate idk. I'm scared to advise anyone to do anything really bc I realize everybody is different and since I've rode that precipitated withdrawal train- I'm scared as hell to get anyone a ride on that track again man..

How do you prevent tranquilizer addiction?

Addiction, in this instance physical dependency (as distinct from psychological or social dependency), will occur if enough of the substance is taken frequently enough. It occurs by altering the function of chemicals in the brain. Your brain cannot not alter it's function in the presence of psychoactive substances. This is inevitable and thus the only way to prevent tranquiliser addiction, is not to take tranx. Ultimately the most effective way of managing distress may be to work with the underlying causes, rather than chemically suppressing the attendant emotions. Without such healing, the distress will manifest either in other compulsions, addictions, illness or somatic symptom.

Does your DR. Drug test you? Mine doesn't. If he doesn't drug test you then don't tell him! But be careful because Benzo's of any kind are dangerous to take with suboxone.
