How is homeostasis affected by anorexia nervosa?
Since anorexia nervosa deprives the body of the food and nutrients it needs, the body is not receiving those essential nutrients vital to normal body function. (such as calcium not being able to flow to muscles and make them contract, thus putting the muscles at risk of atrophy because of a lack of use) If the body can not function normally, then there is something wrong with homeostasis.

What disease called when people diet themselves to death?
The disease in which people starve themselves, occasionally to death, is often called anorexia, however, anorexia is just characterized as a lack of appetite. The two diseases that cause serious problems are...
Anorexia NervosaThis is the common form of anorexia. It's characterized by excessive weight loss and an outright, irrational fear of gaining weight. People who suffer from this, refuse to eat, or they refuse to eat enough, and in turn become malnourished. On account of their fear of gaining weight, in their minds, they'll be unattractive if they eat. Unfortunately, malnourishment causes several metabolic and hormonal disorders which can cause hair loss, missed periods, if the person suffering is a female, bad breath, swollen joints, etc. What I just listed are some physical manifestations of anorexia nervosa. However, as it is a psychological disorder, there are also psychological symptoms. Such as obsession with fat content, calories, and nutritional value. Anorexia Nervosa patients may also cook elaborate, bountiful feasts for others while not eating any thing them self. Anorexia Nervosa also causes a warped perspective of the patient's own self. Basically this means that no matter how much they diet, they always think they look bad. And eventually, this becomes a reality due to the sickly appearance of Anorexia Nervosa patients. Anorexia MirabilisThis is the other main branch of anorexia, but this one is much, much less common. Anyway, 'Anorexia Mirabilis' literally translates to 'Miraculous lack of appetite.' It was prevalent in the middle ages among religious women that starved themselves and claimed that they gained spiritual insight from starving themselves. However, these were probably just delusions due to malnourishment and constant hunger. This form of anorexia, thankfully, faded out during the Renaissance when the church started seeing this as dangerous, and, possibly, a satanic interference. Luckily, in the 20th century, it is virtually non-existant. Nevertheless, modern cases of Anorexia Mirabilis do occur, but they are astronomically rare. Can stress have anything to do with symptoms of anorexia or pregnancy?

What is the nursing intervention of anorexia?
Through treatment, anorexics can get better and return to a normal, healthy lifestyle. For not-as-severe cases, intervention usually is food therapy, forced (healthy) weight gain, regain of organ health, along with therapy mentally. This could be through conseling, medications for depression, ect. For more severe cases, intense therapy would be conducted. An example could be feeding through a tube (directly into the stomach) or an IV, along with food counseling, forced (healthy) weight gain, regain of organ health. The mental therapy would probably be more extensive, possibly even involving family members or close friends to show a rebuilt support system to the anorexia sufferer.
Obesity means having too much body fat. It is not the same as being overweight, which means weighing too much. A person may be overweight from extra muscle, bone, or water, as well as from having too much fat.
Both terms mean that a person's weight is higher than what is thought to be healthy for his or her height.
Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by excessive food restriction and irrational fear of gaining weight, and a distorted body self-perception. It typically involves excessive weight loss. Anorexia nervosa usually develops during adolescence and early adulthood.[1] Due to the fear of gaining weight, people with this disorder restrict the amount of food they consume. This restriction of food intake causes metabolic and hormonal disorders.[2] Outside of medical literature, the terms anorexia nervosa and anorexia are often used interchangeably; however, anorexia is simply a medical term for lack of appetite. However, people with anorexia nervosa do not lose their appetites.[3]

Yes, it could, but it's not very likely. It would probably begin with giving you lots of other health complications in specific parts of your body, but if it went untreated for some time, it could develop into something much more serious.
It's not extremely likely to happen, but it's not unheard of either.
Generally, it is anorexia nervosa. However, someone does not necessarily have to be below weight to have anorexic tendencies, which can be just as dangerous as someone extremely emaciated. These people would be diagnosed as EDNOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified), and need the same psychotherapies as someone with anorexia, without the hospitalization.

Weight can be gained indirectly by starving yourself. Starving yourself increases the likelihood of binge eating so weight may be gained that way. Do anorexic people work out if so how much?
"no they just don't eat anorexic people don't eat anything so they wouldn't have the energy." This is completely false. Obviously, if you don't have an eating disorder you shouldn't be answering questions involving them. I am anorexic ANDbulimic & I exercise for hours at a time. It has NOTHING to do with the amount of energy that you have. It all involves losing weight & you'll do whatever it takes to get to your goal weight. I have an eating disorder website, MySpace & YouTube account for other eating disordered girls & I haven't talked to a single one that isn't an excessive over-exerciser. I am utterly repulsed by the answer previously given. Please, do NOT listen to anything this moron says in the future.
