Can you switch from Prozac to zoloft without weaning off the Prozac first?

i wouldn't worry too much about weaning off of Prozac...
it's acclimating to effexor (and weaning off of it) that's tough.

that said, effexor worked wonderfully for me, pulling me out of a very deep hole.

it's just that it has side effects that can be pretty rough.

Side effects of going cold turkey on Prozac?

For me, the good was it helped my mood and I lost some weight. The bad was reduced libido and teeth clenching. Go to Google.com and type in "which antidepressant" or "Prozac side effects" and you'll get lots of good information, but do consider the sources (reliable medical information or not).

I've been on a few different antidepressants, but overall for depression the best for me has been Prozac. They all have side effects; you just have to try them to see which ones you tolerate best. But give them a good try--they all take a month or so before you start feeling a difference, and ask your doctor how to wean off slowly if you don't feel an improvement and want to stop. The withdrawal symptoms can be very difficult. Remember, antidepressants go hand in hand with counseling; it's important to have both. Good Luck!

Please do bear in mind that the 'suicidal tendencies' associated with anti-depressants occur when they first start to work. Generally when a person who is feeling extremely depressed and in despair starts taking anti-depressants they feel a little bit better and enabled to take some control at last. Unfortunately the first thing they usually feel enabled to do is finish their misery by ending their own life. If they could just hold out for another week or two they would not only feel enabled and like they had some control of their life but not so terribly miserable that the only solution they can comprehend is to terminate their life. So please do think cautiously, look after yourself and seek professional help as you work things out.

The number one side effect of Prozac is nausea and GI upset (studies are showing that it can cause similar problems as NSAIDs so you should be careful with mixing these and if you are prone to ulcers/GI bleeds). Then comes decreased sexual desire.

Can you take Lexapro while on suboxon?

Yes, you can take antidepressants with Suboxone. I am currently taking Suboxone with Cymbalta to treat my fibromyalgia, and Deseryl for sleep. My physician has recently taken me off Deseryl for sleeping and switched me to Remeron instead to improve my sleep, appetite, and treat a gastrointestinal disorder. So you can see here, how antidepressants can be combined with other antidepressants to help treat different disorders while taking Suboxone for example, to treat my chronic pain with my Cervical Disk Disease. You should check with your doctor, however, to make sure he prescribes an antidepressant that is compatible with Suboxone.

Can you take tranxene with blood thinners?

Prozac and commonly prescribed anticoagulants (blood thinners) bind to the same protein. It is possible that Prozac may displace some of the anticoagulants so that there is more of that drug free in the blood.

This is a rare side effect. In short, probably not. However, if you are on blood thinners and Prozac, your clinic will need to be aware and monitoring your levels.

Hi. I currently take 15mg of Reductil for weight loss assistance and 20mg of Fluoxetine for mild depression and have been taking both for almost 1 year, as prescribed by my GP. Can you take Prozac with hydrocodone?

While you are able to take hydrocodone and Zoloft at the same time, it is highly recommended that you do not do so unless advised by a medical professional. The combination of the active sertraline in Zoloft and the hydrocodone can increase the risk of seratonin syndrome.

Whenever wondering about the side effects or dangers of prescription drugs, always consult a medical professional for the best advice.

Is it safe to take Zoloft and focalin at the same time?

Probably, but why take these two together?

In other words, on my Ritalin information sheet, it says not to take zoloft (that's sertraline, right?) with it. Yet, my doctor prescribed it and apparently, doctors (generally) seem to love to prescribe zoloft with stimulants. But many of us have found that zoloft cancels the uplifting effects (for example, in the case of Ritalin with zoloft).

I have never tried zoloft with Provigil, which is not a stimulant per se. Per my experience, I can't see why you would need an anti-depressant with Provigil, which for me, was very mood uplifting. But that's me, and I am more in the anxiety and ADD/HD category than depression.

Upshot: I will never try zoloft again, period!. But if you really love zoloft, maybe try the combo after reading the contraindications first, and/or asking a psy-doctor or neurologist.

Yes, there is no problem in taking those 2 drugs together. You might experiment more side effects (dry mouth, dizziness, sleepiness, ..). This combination might be used in refracting depression (not responding to only 1 antidepressant - or too many side effects at higher dose)

Is it safe to take Ritalin and Prozac together?

There is not yet a generic for this drug. It should be generic around November 2011.

Does Lexapro reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills?

Yes, I have been on lexapro on two different occasions for some months at a time. Both times I have had breakthrough bleeding which is very annoying. I am only taking 5mg of lexapro but it still happens. My doctor says that both medications are fighting for some liver function which causes more bleeding. I have also been brusing more and if I cut myself it bleeds forever.

Can Wellbutrin cause severe anger?

i have and dr. said it was a sign of bipolar. wellbutrin is, indeed, sometimes used to treat bipolar...but the immediate release and the SR version are not used as often, now that the XL (once a day) version is out. He switched me to the XL version and the problem went away. P.S. wellbutrin works on dopamine and norepinephrine. dopamine, he thought, was the problem. another answer: It seems to be a major problem in a small percentage of people who are taking Wellbutrin. Researching on the web, I have come across quite a few comments on this subject and most of the people experiencing this seem to experience actual rage as opposed to minor irritability. I had problems with this myself a couple of years ago. I have been told on many occasions that I am an extremely laid-back individual, but after I started taking wellbutrin I noticed that even small things started to cause me to experience almost uncontrollable anger. I lost a great deal of tact in dealing with other people and I had this constant nagging feeling that I had to leap into a conversation whether or not I had anything useful to add or was even welcome. It caused me a huge amount of stress knowing that I was acting extremely out of character and seemed unable to do anything about it. I was almost hospitalized as it continued to worsen, had to leave work, and spent a great deal of time afterwords fearing that I had forgotten how to be myself around others. I was fine after I stopped taking it, but recently my doctor had me start a low dosage to see if it would help my energy level which was lagging thanks to cymbalta. I have noticed in just a week, on the lowest dosage he could get me, that I have already started bulling my way into conversations (I am a very soft-spoken, polite person), speaking up and feeling very surprised about it as I had not intended to, experienced an increase in tics and intrusive thoughts (from my OCD), and have started to have a scarily familiar feeling in my general manner that basically is like a dangerous bully living in my head and just waiting to surface. This proves to me that the past episode was not in fact due to health problems I was exeriencing at the time, but was, in fact, the wellbutrin.

Do you have to be weaned off of antidepressants?

This depends on what you are weaning yourself off of. Generally if it is an opiate (pain medication), a benzo (like xanax or valium) or an anti-depressant you can wean yourself easily within one week by doing the following. Day one reduce your intake of the medication by 25%. Meaning take a quarter less than you would normally. Do the same on day two. This may mean cutting pills into halves or quarters depending on what your taking and what dose you are on. On day three you should only be taking 50% of the dose you started on. Do the same again on day four. On day five you need to be down to taking only 25% of the dosage you started at. On day six if your body feels no withdrawl then you've accomplished your goal and you don't need to take anything further. For some people their body may react different due to prolonged use of the drug and in these cases on the sixth day if you still feel a slight withdrawl you will need to take 10 to 20% of the original dosage you started out with. Like I stated earlier this will/may require cutting pills into halves, quarters or even smaller. On day seven you will feel completely normal physically. There will be no more need for the med. However, in my experience my patients many times still have a psychological addiction to the drug. I seriously suggest seeking help from a counselor if you still feel the need to use the drug after the 7 day withdrawl period. In fact, I highly suggest talking to your physician about weaning off before you do anything. He/She can help in many ways. Much more than doing it yourself. I do understand that many patients will not see a physician for this due to the stigma attached to the problem. I have given you the best way to withdrawl comfortably should you choose to do this yourself. You will still be able to perform your normal daily functions without feeling any withdrawl this way. I wish you the best of luck in staying free of whatever you've been taking or using. Seek out help with a counselor afterward if you're having trouble being tricked by your mind into thinking you still are having withdrawls. The mind is a very powerful thing and can make you feel the need for the drug long after you're done weaning. I truly hope you succeed. Good luck.

Are any of the anti depressants narcotics?

Antidepressants are not narcotics. Legally a "narcotic" is either an opioid like heroin or morphine or it is cocaine/crack. Medically the term "narcotic" only refers to opioid analgesics. Most doctors and scientists do not like using the word narcotic because most people do not understand exactly what a narcotic is. An antidepressant is not a narcotic nor is it a drug of abuse. Antidepressants are not controlled substances and drug seeking behaviour has not been scene in people taking antidepressants.

It can be argued that amphetamines in particular might be considered narcotics as they are occasionally used in people with severe refractory depression. However technically amphetamines are not narcotics.
