This is what I am trying to ask...
I recently moved to the city. I had to get a dc license because my license was about to expire and it just happened. I don't plan on moving from the city any time soon so it was a good idea to jst have a dc license. The thing is, I do not drive my car ANYWHERE. In fact, I don't have it with me. It is in my parents garage....never being used. I don't want to get rid of it because its a great car and I may want to use it every once in a while, but it will never be parked in the city.
Now, I think, because I got a dc license, I have to switch my tags to dc tags....meaning i have to register my car in dc. That's no problem. But, since the car will tech be in MD...can i keep the MD insurance? The insurance TRIPLES if i get dc insurance because it thinks it will be in dc with me....and there are a lot of cars and small accidents. Its nuts. I don't want to triple my insurance for a car that i will NEVER drive.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Yes, some insurers have rules that even if there was an accident with no payout or no claim made, your premiums will be affected. So once you report the incident to your insurer, they will consider it a claim against your future premiums. However, there are some companies out there that will not hold the incident against you, so would recommend you shop around for the best rate based on your situation.
Yes

New residents must have a valid license before how many days?
how many days must a new resident to california have a valid license?
Unfortunately, the fact that your son falls into the vaunted 16 to 24 age group that insurance companies already look at as being high risk and was cited for speeding does not work in your favor. You will need to talk to your insurance agent about what kind of rate hikes you will see and whether or not you there is a way to lower your risk and thus lower your rates in the near future.
If you buy the car can it be registered in someone elses name?
No. Whoever's name is on the title is going to be on the registration and insurance also. You can pay for the car and title it in somebody elses name, but at that point you've given them a free car, because you have no legal rights to the vehicle at all.
The car goes into the estate. The estate may sell the car to cover debt and costs. They may also transfer title to the appropriate party.

Who is covered under auto insurance?
For example a Named Driver policy extends no coverage for other drivers at all. It all depends on the type of policy you buy. Insurance is not for cars it is for the protection of the people who own and drive them.
Your Insurance Agent can usually explain coverages and recommend the right policy for you.
Happy Motoring.
If you witness an auto accident must you stop and help?

This question can not be answered because of many variables, to include:
Age
Sex
Marital Status
Education level
Credit history
Driving record
Employer
Location of the parked/garaged vehicle
Annual driving distance
Group affiliations (ie, professional or alumni groups)
The range can vary greatly - I pay $124/mo for two turbocharged Subarus with great coverage, whereas others have cited $500+/mo for the bare minimum. Many insurance carriers offer online quote tools, so using them would give a more specific answer than asking here.
Can you drive a vehicle that hasn't got insurance?
Depends on which country. In Canada for example, no. Since insurance is given by vehicle. In the USA, yes, since a person is insured.
