Why do some people like ballet?
Social dancing has been around for centuries in varying degrees of popularity. What we know now as "ballroom" is a group of dances which have come back into style after nearly 80 years due to popular television shows such as Simply Ballroom and Dancing With The Stars.
While now more popular than ten years ago the Ballroom dances have always been strong! Schools all over the world still teach ballroom dancing and probably will continue to for a time.
Arthur Murray has been around for 100 years teaching ballroom style dances and their website has a good history of the subject:
www.arthurmurray.com/Ballet is a complex mixture of technique and basically a fair bit of coordination and musicality (which is feeling and moving with the music). You have to perform it confidently and it has to fit the mood of the dance and music. It is a very beautiful dance when it is done properly. But much more beautiful a 'Pas de deux en pointe'.
It takes years and years to perfect and you have to be fit and flexible and also very committed.
"Is someone seriously asking this question? Wow. Does someone out there really not know? Well, may as well fill in the blanks here...
Aside from the answer above...
Ir's a form of classical dance that's seemingly gymnastic and acrobatic to formal classical music--usually referred to either as "the girliest, most gayest thing there is" or the "most demanding, exhausting, consuming and difficult sport there is." Traditionally done in tights and slippers, ballet seems so impossible, yet so feminine. And it's the one sport totally dominated and just better done by women.
What is ballet, really? It's everything, really. It's a form of exercise, a body sculpting. It's as an athletic sport as football. Only the players all work together to create something together instead of trying to stop the others efforts. It's an out-of-body, ESP spiritual experience. It's an art form. It's a happening. It's an event. It's everything and anything at once. Ballet is even therapeutic because it gets a lot of excess energy, thought and worry off your mind and body and replaces it with a pleasantly released serene feeling.
Like climaxing or releasing stress. Many misconstrue that you need to be rich, posh, snobby, female, intellectual, upper-crust and thin as a wafer to get it. That's just narrow-minded stereotyping idiocy. All ballet really requires is that while you're doing it (every minute you're doing it), you to give everything about yourself every moment.
The sight of the empty dance studio early in the morning... no one is around... it's a little drafty, but a little warm at the same time... a pair of worn, battered, beaten ballet slippers on the hardwood floor... the old, weathered, but still hard and durable barre' on the wall... the dust floating through the air by the sunlight at the window.... it's all so d***ed beautiful, you know. It makes it all worth it.
Well, that was my OWN PERSONAL ANSWER. But... Hell, thanks for asking!"

How do you become as flexible as a contortionist?
The main thing is to keep practising everyday and NEVER GIVE UP. Work on your flexibility in the morning and afetr a shower or bath as your muscles are still warm. To become as flexible most people are born with it so its practicially easy for them. But other old stiff people who want to become it usually start doing yoga or gymnastics to get flexible as fast. Or you can do any martial art like karate to get flexible. After you get extremely flexible i would suggest start getting lessons on contortionist lessons. If your still young then maybe your mom can get you into it or call a place or something. I hoped this helped. The only thing that I want to add to the top answer is that the younger that you start to work on your flexibility the better. When you are younger you are more agile. Also every time that you exercise stretch for a half hour before and after. Breath and relax when you stretch.
