What exercises would you recommend for releves with one foot in ballet?

Well, just doing releves is helpful, practice makes perfect :-) But if you want something different to help strenghthen your calves/feet for releves, get a "theraband" and hook it over your foot. Pull the two ends of it back towards you (you should be sitting down for this) and then work on pointing and flexing your foot. The tension in the theraband puts more reisitance on your foot making you work harder to pointe it. It is a very good excercise, and is also very good for new pointe dancers.

Going on pointe without specially made pointe shoes can seriously damage your toes; it can easily break them, dislocate them and cause growth defects.

Although, if you just want to try, you can pull yourself up onto pointe using a pull-up bar- but DO NOT put any weight on your toes.

What the difference between ballet shoe and a point shoe?

To answer your question,

the difference between the classic ballet shoe and a pointe shoe is their overall apperance. As you may see (if you have seen them) a standard ballet shoe is rounded, and used by dancers that are trying to achieve stronger muscles in there feet. A pointe shoe has a flat tip so you are able to stand on your "tippy toes", these shoes are for dancers, who have proved they have good arch support, and muscle ability.

Hope that helped!
