Pointe shoes are quite expensive. They can reach from $50 up to $130. I am a dancer/ballerina myself and mine is $115😅 But it is worth it considering the excitement you feel when you get your pointe shoes (especially your first ones). But remember, you have to get permission from your ballet teacher/coach to go on pointe as pointework is pretty dangerous for inexperienced dancers and dancers with weak ankles.

How many years of expierience do you need to take pointe and can a beginner take it?
I am not an expert, this is just to give you an idea of what is involved in learning pointe. I believe the minimum age you can learn is about 12 and many would say even older than that. This is because doing pointe before your body is fully developed can do permanent and serious injury. For those old enough, years of training is required to build the appropriate muscle strength and posture. If you began as an adult such as myself, (I am still in my 20's) to dance on pointe, most teachers will tell you that it requires 5 hours or more a week for a number of years to build up the strength required so that you will not hurt yourself.
Every body is different, some people may never be able to dance on pointe and some people may be able to progress to the advanced level more quickly. It depends on the dancer but you must have proper training and a qualified ballet master to teach you.
I like to think no one stands in the way of our dreams but ourselves, so anything is possible!
How long does it take to get on pointe?
It depends on how long you have been dancing and the dance school you're in. Usually the norm is to give it 3-4 solid years of training and prep (not particularly pre-pointe, but at least working up to that)
For the average dancer who starts around 6-8 years of age the normal time to start pre-pointe and pointe is around 13 and 14 years of age.
If you start later it will depend purely on how quickly you strengthen and learn dance, on your body type, and when your instructor says you're ready to begin.

Well, every ballet step involves technique. For example, you can't just battement or 'kick' your leg to the side and call it a 'good kick.' It might be really high, but there are so many other things you have to think about and make sure are correct like, 'was the working leg (the leg you battement) and the supporting leg (the leg you stand on) straight AND turned out?' ' am I standing up straight?' ' was my foot pointed?' and many, many other little details you have to have be sure you do when you perform that battement. It also takes so much time and practice and strength to develop that technique. A ballerina may make that Grande Battement look effortless, but there's a lot more to it then just flinging you leg in the air.
If you know what a degage is, then you know that it is a move where you brush your foot against the floor and then let it come of the floor. Picture it as an airplane on a runway. The air plane takes of by driving on the ground (in this case brushing your foot on the floor) and then the plane lifts off (the foot leaves the floor and goes into the air). This is almost the same thing as a battement degage, except when your leg lifts off the ground in a degage, it normally stays at most a half foot off the ground. In a battement degage, however, the legs is thrown into the air, many feet of the ground. Many well-trained ballerinas can kick their head with their leg in a battement degage. Ballet dancers usually just call a battement degage a battement for short.
