How does the Baptist faith differ from Judaism?

One view The Baptists believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah of the Old Testament and that the prophecies of the Old Testament point to Jesus Christ. They believe that the Messiah has already come and that the Messiah was Jesus Christ, whereas the Jews do not.

1 John 5:20 (KJV) And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

Jewish Answer

The Baptist religion is a denomination of Christianity and Christianity was based on the rejection of Judaism. Examples of Baptist tenets and concepts that go against the teachings of Judaism and the Tanach (Jewish Bible) are:

- The trinity

- Original sin

- The Christian concept of sin

- The idea of eternal damnation (G-d is eternally forgiving)

- The virgin birth (This is the result of a mistranslation from Greek to Latin)

- That G-d can be man or son of man

- The need to pray to G-d through intermediaries, such as a messiah.

- The Christian concept of salvation and grace

The word 'messiah' is the Anglicization of the Hebrew 'moshiach'. The word moshiach translates to 'anointed'. The title of moshiach was given to any person who was appropriately anointed with oil as part of their initiation to their service of HaShem. Jews have had many moshiachim (pl) in the form of kings, priests, prophets, and judges and that there is absolutely nothing supernatural about a moshiach. There is a prophecy about a future moshiach, however, he'll be a mortal man who will lead the country of Israel.

These are just some examples of how the teachings of the Baptist Church differ from those of Judaism. In all actuality, the only real similarity is that the Christian Old Testament was based on the Tanach, however, the OT was altered to support the teachings of Christianity.

Why Baptists and Methodists split during the Civil War along sectional?

Though the Triennial Convention and the Home Mission Society were theoretically neutral in regards to slavery, some Baptists in the South did not believe this assurance of neutrality. They knew several leaders who were engaged in abolitionist activity. To test this neutrality, Georgia Baptists recommended James E. Reeve, a slaveholder, to the Home Mission Society as a missionary in the South. The Society's board decided that they would not appoint a slaveholder as a missionary, a decision that the Baptists in the south saw as an infringement on their equal rights.[2] Another issue that disturbed the churches in the south was the perception that the American Baptist Home Mission Society (org. 1832) did not appoint a proportionate number of missionaries to the southern region of the US. Baptists both north and south preferred different types of denominational organization: the Baptists in the north preferred a loosely structured society composed of individuals who paid annual dues, with each society usually focused on a single ministry. Baptists in southern churches preferred an organization composed of churches patterned after their associations, with a variety of ministries brought under the direction of one denominational organization.[3] Baptists from the South subsequently broke from the national organizations and formed a new convention, the Southern Baptist Convention which was formed May 8–12, 1845, in Augusta, Georgia. Its first president was William Bullein Johnson (1782-1862), who was president of the Triennial Convention in 1841.

Do you allow a man to be ordained or preach in your organization with 3 living wives for United or Southern Baptist churches?

Speaking for Southern Baptist churches...

The Southern Baptist Convention has instituted in The Baptist Faith & Message that all leaders of the church (pastors, deacons, etc.) shall be the husband of one wife as quoted in 1 Timothy 3. That is one of the many differences between Baptists & Mormons/Church of Latter Day Saints. == 2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach... 12Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

Why do people blame pastors when members of the church fall?

Because they don't realize that the preacher is just a man and can let you down just like anyone else. Although he is annointed by God to preach His word, they need to look to God for refuge and not the preacher because he is not dependable. Something/someone that is tangible makes our feelings and spirit become easily caught up in something that's misleading.

When was Umberslade Baptist Church created?

Umberslade Baptist Church was created in 1893.

Who does God say should lead the church and why?

Firstly, we have to identify what the Bible really meant by"church". The Bible never meant the word "ekklessia" to mean 'church' in all of it's present context and connotations. The Scripture is Jewish in both context and definitions. It belongs to Israel by it's very mandate. Yeshua, Maschiach of Israel, the 12 talmidim (Disciples), Rabbi Shaul (Paul), the Prophets of Israel, the Kings of Israel is and are Jews. When Americans, especially government officials, speaks amongst themselves about "the COUNTRY", the NATION, the PEOPLE, The LAND, etc, they all meant one thing= AMERICA. Similarly, when Jews speaks amongst themselves about the 'shul', qahal, edah w/c are the original words spoken by the 'jews' mentioned above, they would have meant the Congregation of Israel and not the "church" Yeshua's official position is likened to Obama's. Obama would have meant U.S.A. when he talks about "the country", "the nation", etc.. Yeshua, if He is supposed to be the Maschiach of Israel would have meant "the Congregation of Israel" whenever he used those Hebrew words. There was no reason for him to speak in Aramaic nor Greek as he was talking to His fellow Jews. All of the Disciples, the writers of the New Testament and Rabbi Shaul would have used the same definition and context of those words. If we have to answer the above question literally, then, the answer would be NONE. The G-D of Israel would never assigned anyone to lead the "church" as the church is not His Congregation nor created by Him or by Yeshua. The G-D of Israel never made any Covenant (TREATY) with any gentile nor gentile associations. There is no evidence in the entire Scripture that the Covenant was revoked G-D, nor that it was transferred to the "church". If we revised the question to it's proper Biblical (Jewish) context, then my answer would be Yeshua haNatzeret (Yeshua the Nazarene). The word Maschiach (Christ) has the properties of three Offices that all belongs to Israel: The KING of the Kingdom of Israel, The Chief Prophet of the People of Israel, and the High Priest of the Congregation of Israel. As you can see, all of the above Offices are of, by and for Israel.

How many catorgorys of Baptist are there?

Probably more than you can count. There are some large and some small, and there are even Baptist churches that don't associate with any group of churches. Likely, the number of 'Baptist categories' is debatable as well, because from group to group there may also be different definitions of Baptist.

Who can wear a robe in the Baptist church?

Robes are not one of the ordinances of the worship service of a Baptist church, they are irrelevant to the worship service. Robes do not identify any kind of hierarchical position. Sometimes the choir uses them to have a common dress. There is no verse in the Bible that discusses wearing robes in the church.

Why do I see in Baptist bible a verse in the 4th commandment with the Honor thy mother and thy father about parents don't provoke your children to anger which I don't see in Catholic 10 commandments?

The Baptist bible, being a Protestant bible, would list "Honor thy father and thy mother" as the 5th commandment. The Catholic bible would list it as the 4th commandment. Protestants, Catholics, and Jews each number the commandments slightly differently. "Provoke not your children to wrath" is in Ephesians 6:4

Baptist What is overtime for a pastor?

Overtime for a pastor typically refers to additional hours worked beyond their standard schedule, often related to extra responsibilities such as counseling, conducting ceremonies, or special events. Unlike many secular jobs, pastors may not receive financial compensation for overtime, as their roles often involve a commitment to their congregation beyond typical working hours. Instead, any additional compensation or time off may be determined by the church's policies or the pastor's employment agreement. It's important for churches to communicate clearly about expectations and compensation related to pastoral work.

Why did many enslaved africans join baptist congregations?

Tenebrae service in Baptist churches?

The word 'tenebrae' is Latin for shadows. The purpose of the Tenebrae service is to recreate the emotional aspects of the passion story, so this is not supposed to be a happy service, because the occasion is not happy. If your expectation of Christian worship is that it should always be happy and exhilarating, you won't appreciate this service until the second time you attend it.

The service was originally designed for Good Friday, but it can be used for Maundy Thursday as well. Both services have long scripture narratives, which for this service are divided into seven, eight, or nine parts, each one assigned to a different reader.

The service may include other parts, such as solemn hymns, a sermon, and Communion, but the core of the Tenebrae service works like this: It starts out with the church in candlelight. There are as many candles as there are readings, plus a white Christ candle. The readers go up one at a time, read their assigned selections, and extinguish one of the candles, until only the Christ candle remains. Then someone reads the first part of Psalm 22, which Jesus quoted on the cross. Then the Christ candle is put out, leaving the congregation in near total darkness---and near total devastation. At this point, the service ends. There is no benediction and the people leave in silence. (The lights are turned up but remain dim so that people can see their way out.)

The purpose of the service is to recreate the betrayal, abandonment, and agony of the events, and it is left unfinished, because the story isn't over until Easter Day.

The first time I went to a Tenebrae service, I thought it was awful, because I didn't understand it. But I went a second time and now it is my favorite service in the year! After I became a pastor, I had one at my church. It was the first time they experienced a Tenebrae service, so I prepared them for it. Everyone who attended said it was the most moving service they had ever been to.

If you see only the happy ending of a movie, everyone who saw it from the start is elated, but you go away saying, "So they were all hugging each other? So what?" But if you see the beginning and the middle part, with all the suspense and grief, you understand what the characters overcame, and the happy ending is all the happier. So to me, attending the Easter service without attending the Holy Week services is like watching the happy ending of the movie without seeing the middle---you only rob yourself of joy.

What is required for church membership in a Baptist church?

What is required for church membership in a Baptist Church? The answer is:

First, you must be saved or born again (John 3:3). Being born again is receiving Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. Believing that Jesus died for your sins and that he was resurrected on the third day. Romans 10:9-10"That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."

Second. you must be baptized. This is scriptural baptism which is by immersion. Or, to go under and not by sprinkling. This baptism is after you have made your confession of receiving Jesus as Lord of your life.

There are a lot of individuals who have been baptized after they were born or within their first year of birth. This baptism is meaningless. A baby cannot confess Jesus as Lord. So, in most Baptist Churches, if one was baptized prior to their confession or being born again, you would have to be re-baptized.

Baptism is an act that is done after one have received Jesus as Lord and not before.

These are the two things that all must do to become a member of most Baptist churches in America.
