Who are the best authenticators of baseball memorabilia currently?

An autograph that is not authenticated by a creditable company could sell at half the market value or less. Two of the top, and most trusted authenticators are PSA/DNA, and James Spence Authentic (JSA). Collectors will pay more for signatures authenticated by either one. It may sound odd but in some cases PSA/DNA, and JSA authenticated signatures may sell higher than a Letter of authenticity from an unknown or less trusted authenticator that witnessed the signing even though PSA/DNA, and JSA did not. It's just a matter of collectors trust, and collectors will pay more for it.

Check the respective websites Show Schedule to see if they will be in the area that you live. They also do business through the mail. If you did not acquire the signatures yourself, or are not sure of its origin, do your homework. Before spending money on having the autograph authenticated find signatures on line that have been properly authenticated, and compare them to yours. If you feel comfortable that they are authentic then proceed. Try these helpful Links below for comparing signatures.

Should you shellac a baseball?

No Shellac
No. It will hurt the value of the signature. Years ago it was a common practice to shellac the baseball to protect the signatures. This practice stopped when it was realized that the balls would turn yellow, crack, and peal off. With some of the earliest signed baseballs, the value is not hurt as much as with newer balls because the autographs are more rare, and it was common.

What is a knuckleball?

Throwing a KnuckleballUsing all four fingers and thumb, grip the ball with fingertips/nails only. If your hand is large enough, use a grip that I can only describe as one you might use while pretending to be a lion and going "grrr" to a child. You pull your arm back, and then, as you bring it forward, at the time of release, you "push" the ball, releasing with all five digits at the same time. If done correctly, the ball will have no spin. Thus, the air currents take over the movement of the ball. That is why it is so hard to hit when thrown properly; it follows no consistent path/curve, but more likely moves north-south-north-south unpredictably. Speed is almost negligible; yet enough speed/force must be applied to get the ball all the way to the plate!!

Click on the 'How to Throw the Knuckleball' for more tips on throwing the knuckleball.

I thought I might add you don't "push" the ball to the plate. You throw it like any other ball. The only difference is at release point you point your fingers out to home plate. And also remember to always follow through. This pitch was not meant to be throw hard. In fact a slower arm speed is better. The slower it goes the more it moves. But make sure you throw it fast enough so it reaches the plate! Once you do it right youll always want to throw it. Trust me. I'm a knuckleballer with a 60 MPH Knuckleball and im 14! im 5 MPH behind Tim Wakefield. (Hence my name).

Wild card in baseball?

In most cases, the division winner with the best overall season record plays the wildcard team and the other two division winners play each other. But, in the case where the wildcard team and the division winner with the best overall record come from the same division, the division winner with the second overall best record plays the wildcard team and the division winner with the best overall record plays the division winner with the third best overall record. Confusing? Kinda, and kinda not really fair either, but MLB does not want two teams from the same division playing each other in the first round of the playoffs.

I have a bunch of baseball cards are they worth anything?

The value of baseball cards as with any other collectible is dictated by supply, and demand. The lower the number of items available on the market with the highest demand will have a higher value. Older baseball cards are fewer in number than today's baseball cards, and in general have a higher value. There are modern cards that have high value, that are available in high numbers but, the demand for those cards is greater than the number avalible. As time passes if collectors lose interest in these cards because of the large numbers printed the value will drop big time. The older cards in less number in time will have a better chance of holding their value longer.

How much is a Bob Welch baseball card worth?

The most expensive card of any player (typically) is the rookie year card. The value of any card is determined by its popularity which is in turn determined by the popularity of the player...note that popularity and player performance are not always tied together. You can see this phenomenon with Bob Welch cards. he won a Cy Young award and some key world series games...but he was always in the shadow of other pictures..Fernando Valenzuela...Orel Hershiser. his rookie card in mint condition might go for around 20 bucks. most of his other cards will likely go for under two dollars...maybe more if you sell them in Southern Cal.

What is the value of a ball signed by all of the 1963 Yankees including Mantle Yogi and Roger Maris?

According to the collector's price guide, "Team Baseballs," your mid-30's Yankees team-signed ball is worth between $800-1500, with value being greater or lower depending on exact year and players present - in particular, the inclusion or exclusion of Hall of Famers Lou Gehrig - plus all-important overall condition of the ball and autographs. Other key factors include type of ball (is it an "Official American League" ball?), whether there are any "clubhouse signatures" (autographs signed for players by ballboys, attendants, etc), and total number of signatures present. The authenticity of the Gehrig signature is of particular importance, as he used "ghost-signers" extensively.

Yankees memorabilia is always highly collected and these factors, plus the authenticity of the all the significant signatures are the main variables in determining value.
