What was the russuian sector of Berlin?
The Russian sector of Berlin, known as East Berlin, was part of the larger division of the city into East and West following World War II. Occupied by the Soviet Union, it became the capital of East Germany (German Democratic Republic) in 1949. Characterized by a socialist government, it featured state-controlled industries and collective agriculture, contrasting sharply with the capitalist West Berlin. The Berlin Wall, erected in 1961, physically and ideologically separated East and West Berlin until its fall in 1989.
Why was there a East Berlin and a West Berlin?
West Berlin was democratic, controlled by West Germany. East Berlin was Communist, controlled by the Soviets and East Germany. Just to be confusing..... East Germany was called the GDR, the German Democratic Republic. It was that in name, it was not that in actual fact !
Boris Berlin (27 May 1907 - 24 March 2001) was Russian-born Canadian pianist, pedagogue, and composer.
He had composed many wonderful pieces including "March of the Goblins" and "Monkeys in the Tree". The Royal Conservatory of Music named Berlin a "Heritage Teacher" in a ceremony on 6 April 1990. In 1992 he was awarded the 125th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal and was made a Member of the "Order of Ontario". In 2000 he became an Officer of the Order of Canada, but died in March 24th 2001 in Toronto before the ceremony honouring him with this title was held.
What did the Berlin wall mean for those who wished to cross it?
As you may know, the Berlin wall was constructed during world war 2. The soviet union created this boundary to keep the citizens of East germany (which was under communist rule by the soviet union) from migrating to the democratic west germany. Berlin Wall was this big barrier that didn't allow east germans to get out of soviet rules. East germans at that time were starved; many children scraped off food from the lids of trashcans. Crossing the Berlin wall meant freedom from the tyrannic communist rule of the Soviet Union. Eventually the Berlin wall was broken down, symbolizing the end of the soviet union and the freedom of East Germany.
What is the 2 4 6 method when putting up a wall or how can you square a wall with nothiing to go by?
Actually, it's the 3, 4, 5 method. If you create a right angle triangle with the two sides closest to the right angle being 3 and 4 units (inches, feet, meters, miles... whatever) the "opposite" (opposite to the right angle) length will be 5 units. If you know much about math, you can use the Pythagorean theorem to calculate the sides of the triangle. The Pythagorean theorem states: "The square of the hypotenuse is equal to sum of the squares of the other two sides. If this is true, then the square of 3 plus the square of 4 will equal to the square of 5. Is that true? Three squared = 9. Four squared = 16. 16 + 9 = 25 which equals the square of 5. If you have a known right angle triangle, you can use it to square a wall, floor or just about anything else. Measure 3 and 4 units on what is SUPPOSED to be a right angle, then the hypotenuse can be measured and when it is 5 units, the wall, floor or whatever is, by definition, square. simply use the line where you are going to put the wall. where this line intersects or ends at another line{wall] measure from this point 4 feet and make a mark . then measure 2 feet out from starting point and mark a slight arc roughly at a right angle to first line then measure from the 4 foot mark 6 foot to the 2 foot mark and make a slight arc and where the 6 foot and the 2 foot marks intersect will be a perfect right or square angle. for big rooms use 4-6-8 or 8-12-16. I failed algebra but have built many a house using this method.
What were the control methods of East and West Berlin?
East Berlin had a One Party Rule, were not allowed to leave the country, everyone was paid equally and there were strict forced collectivisation with money. On the other side, West Berlin, you got paid for what you worked for, and were allowed to leave the country. :-)
What were the positive results of the end of the Cold War?
For those people that had knowledge of Atomic Bombs, it meant that we didn't have to wake up one morning and look out the window and see some large "mushroom cloud" appearing over some city. We all, for the most part, expected it, but didn't let it ruin or run our lives. We lived our daily lives routinely...if it happened...it happened...there was nothing we could do about it. With the end of the cold war...we don't even think about it anymore...it's over.
