Why do people exist?

Many people have different views on why people exist. Each religion has a different story of how the earth came to be and how God/the gods created humans. Atheists don't believe in God at all. They believe that the universe and Earth was created by the Big Bang.

There are plenty of Atheists who think the big bang theory is complete bull. Some believe in it. Atheists as a whole(group) don't have a specific thing they believe in. Just a specific thing they don't.

Answer 2

God made the Earth for people: "He did not create [the earth] simply for nothing," but "formed it to be inhabited" (Isaiah 45:18). He wanted people to exist in order to have someone to love, and to give us an opportunity to achieve godliness. All people are tested concerning their use of free-will. We possess a soul which lives on after the body dies and is held responsible for the person's actions. Anyone who is worthy can merit reward in the afterlife. When the righteous use their free-will to obey God despite His being hidden, they have shown that they deserve His love. Their reward will never cease. But even the undeserving are given the kindness of life in this world, and the lifelong ability to draw near to Him.

Why do humans respond emotionally to beautiful sights? And why are painters, sculptors, or musicians motivated emotionally (even beyond monetary need) - to create works of beauty? We are created in the image of God (Genesis ch.5), and God himself is a master artist, who (we intuit) enjoys beauty and has made this beautiful world (see Genesis 1:31). The best human efforts to create beauty are a pale reflection of God's own designs. We respond to them because we are made in the Creator's image.

How thick does a wall have to be to keep out radioactivity?

The answer to this depends on the radioactivity and the wall.

Alpha particles are usually stopped by just about anything. A piece of paper will usually do. But as they get faster, they need more to stop them.

Beta radiation penetrates deeper. They are somewhat problematical, because the damage they do seems to happen mostly when they are at lower energies, transitioning to become ordinary electrons. They are stopped by a few millimeters of aluminum. Wood and plastic will also do.

Gamma rays and X-rays are best stopped by lead. Actually depleted uranium is better at stopping gamma rays, but it is not available. Several centimeters might be required.

Neutrons are not easily stopped by either light or heavy metals. What you want here is water. Since concrete is made with water in it, a couple feet of concrete is usually sufficient.

Of course, since radioactivity is everywhere, it really cannot be kept out. Carbon-14 is a common isotope, and is widely known from reports of carbon-14 tests. But there are radioactive isotopes of every element, and most elements in nature have such isotopes in nature. So the radioactivity will be there, but just in small amounts.

If the wall is made of such a material as granite, it produces its own radioactivity.

In 1945 Germany was divided into four zones, run by Britain, France, the US and the Soviet Union. Berlin, which lay inside the Soviet Zone, was divided into four sectors (run by the same powers). From 1947 onwards the Western zones co-operated and came together for many purposes and in 1948-49 Germany split into East and West. In principle, Berlin continued to have a special status, but also split into East and West.

What was the Soviet Union trying to accomplish with the Berlin blockade?

The Soviet Union was hoping to drive the western allies out of Berlin, so they could occupy the whole city which was located 128 miles deep inside East Germany. The Soviet Union never like the arrangement after World War II to have the city of Berlin divided among the allied governments. I also think that the Soviets felt they deserved to occupy the entire city because of the tremendous losses they suffered taking Berlin from the Nazis. Over 300,000 Russians were killed taking the city.

Why did West Berlins location make it difficult for the allies to defend it?

Germany was divided, after WWII, into two- East and West Germany. The East belonged to the USSR and the West belonged to the allies. Berlin (the capitol of Germany) was also divided. (Of course the West half goes to the allies and east to the USSR) But Berlin was located in the USSR's side of Germany.

Later the Soviet Union closed off the airports in their half of Berlin to try and get the allies to leave, so of course the allies' planes couldn't land there to defend West Berlin.
