Boas

Boas, also called Boids, are a family of snakes that use constriction rather than venom to subdue and kill their prey. Boas are native to Africa, America, Asia, Europe and some Pacific Islands. Boas differ from pythons in two main ways the most notable of these being that boas give birth to live young.

Can you use a standard humidifier to humidify a snake enclosure?

Most snakes don't need a humidifier. The vast majority of the commonly-kept species thrive in relatively dry, temperate climatesThe only species that need high humidity - are those found in rain-forests. Commonly-kept species - such as those from northern america, (corn snakes and garter snakes) don't need high humidity. Neither do those from Africa/Asia such as Royal & Burmese pythons. Even Boas from central america don't need the humidity that high.

In most cases, gently misting the vivarium a couple of times a week, using a simple spray-bottle filled with water - is sufficient to raise the humidity if needed.

Could bull snakes live with boa constrictors?

yes they are both kind of snakes and are both coldblooded

^^^ NO, Absolutely NOT ! Despite the fact they are both form the same country, the Boa constrictor grows to a huge size, and considerable weight ! Housing these species together would almost certainly result in the bull snake being crushed under the weight of the boa ! - Snakester1962 (Supervisor)

Are rainbow boas good pets?

Answer

Answer

Snakes may not be cuddly, but they are pretty cool animals. I mean, they don't have any legs! It's just so weird! And a dog or a cat won't love you any more than a snake will. Cats and dogs show us affection because we're the ones who feed them, but they don't really love us. They are lacking the part of the brain that is responsible for higher emotions. Only humans are capable of love. And if you've ever seen a cat kill a mouse -- they play with it and torment it and torture it for hours -- then you know they can be as vicious as any other animal.

And snakes are pretty low-maintenance pets. They only need to be fed once a month or so. My friend has two: a ball python and a King snake. The King snake is gorgeous: he's a lovely lilac color, with some blue and darker purple mixed in, and he's completely docile and tame. He'll just wrap himself around your wrist and fingers and hang out there.

I don't know all that much about snakes, myself, but it seems that the best thing to do, if you've never had a snake before, is to start with a smaller one, until you're experienced enough to handle and take care of a larger one. Rainbow boas are pretty big. My friend got her King snake (he's about a foot and a half long, and about an inch wide at his widest point) first, and she had him for about a year before she got the ball python (which is about 4 or 5 feet, and about 3 inches thick).

Actually, she got two pythons, but the second one was a rather large male (I never saw him, but she says he was about 6 or 7 feet long) and he turned out to be very aggressive. One day, he slithered under the table where her boyfriend was having breakfast, and bit down on his foot and wouldn't let go. So she had to give him away to a more experienced snake person.

So, if you want to start keeping snakes, it would really be better if you started out with a smaller one, until you learn how to handle them. And you have to be prepared to feed them live mice (or rats, with the bigger snakes). You have to smack the mouse/rat against the wall to knock it unconscious before feeding it to the snake, because otherwise the mouse could bite or stratch the snake in self-defense. So if you have any qualms about doing this, then you should find another pet.

How do you catch a pet boa constrictor outside?

This is best left to a professional who knows how to handle escaped reptiles without harming them. However, here are some tips if you want to try this yourself. In general, you will need at least one strong mobile person per two feet of snake. Once you locate the constrictor, one person needs to catch the snake just behind the head. As soon as this person has the head immobilized, everyone else needs to hop on at their designated position (one about every two feet, pin the snake straight down) to keep the constrictor from twisting its body around. Once the snake is immobilized, working as a team you can lift the snake up and place it back into a secure container to be transported back home.
