Boas

Boas, also called Boids, are a family of snakes that use constriction rather than venom to subdue and kill their prey. Boas are native to Africa, America, Asia, Europe and some Pacific Islands. Boas differ from pythons in two main ways the most notable of these being that boas give birth to live young.

How many eggs does a boa constrictor lay?

None.

Boa Constrictors are ovoviviparous which means they give birth to live young.

Boa constrictor embryos develop within an egg inside the females' body and hatch shortly before birth.

It seems the number of offspring produced can vary greatly with claims of between 10 and 60 hatchlings per clutch. I would say that around 20 - 30 viable hatchlings per clutch is typical.

Does the green anaconda have venom?

No, the green anaconda does not have venom. It's a nonvenomous constrictor.

How much food does a boa constrictor eat a day?

Young boas consume an average of a mouse per week. As the boa's size increases, so does the size of the meal--or the number of animals consumed in one meal. For adult boas, one meal every 7-10 days is usually sufficient. However, if you observe your snake searching around the cage in less than 7 days you can consider feeding it more often or feeding it a little larger meal. Avoid making too large of a jump in the size of your boa's meal, however. as it will regurgitate its food if the meal is too large to digest. It is also a good idea to let your boa "rest" for a couple of days after eating. That is, handle your boa less and avoid moving it around or startling it. Finally, snakes grow at different rates so you need to adjust the size and frequency of meals to your own snakes rate of growth.

How big is an emerald tree boa's baby at birth?

How long can a boa constrictor hold its breath?

Many factors come in to play, such as the age and size of the animal. A baby with underdeveloped lungs surely can't hold it's breath for as long as a matured specimen. Water temperature is also a factor.

It is not too out of the ordinary to observe a boa swimming underwater for several minutes at a time on just a leisurely swim, and they have been known to stay under for 20-30 minutes during mite infestations in an attempt to drown the parasites.

Can snakes cry?

My Best AnswerNo, they hiss.

_________________

Snakes have no vocal cords and therefore do not talk (nor make any other sound). The only kind of sound they can make is a hissing sound and that is caused by them forcing out air rapidly from their nostrils or mouth.

If this is true, how did God create a talking snake?

How should you behave by a boa constrictor?

If you mean how do you behave around a boa constrictor, then you move slowly so that you don't startle it. Let it climb on you as if you were a tree, not a predator grabbing it. When getting one out of an enclosure, it's best to have some way to tell it it isn't feeding time. For example, you could rub a snake hook along it to let it know there isn't food coming. Don't lift up just by tail, if lifting by the tail lift it a bit and put your hand under the middle of its body before lifting it out. Don't tap on its enclosure as it could stress them out. Try to stay away from it's head, unless for diagnosis purposes or if letting someone touch it who's afraid of snakes, etc. Don't just flip it around like it's a bag of potatoes, it's a living being with a sense of balance and this will just disorient them. Don't pick them up by the head, and be gentle! If feeding, don't just reach in and grab them, that's just asking to get bit, and you don't want a big angry boa biting you! And, of course don't grab one with prey scent on your hand as they will be in feeding mode, and you will get bit.

What is the name for snake pee?

Snakes don't pee, they have one bowel movement after every feeding (discarding the not necessary parts of the prey) so they pee and poop all at once

How do animals get camouflage?

How do emerald tree boas move?

Emerald Tree Boas are very similar to the green tree python. They are bright green in colour with a yellow coloured underside. They have an irregular zigzag stripe along their back and they reach lengths between 1.5 and 2 m (5 - 5.5 ft).

They have a strong prehensile tail which helps them to move around between the branches of trees. They spend their days coiled over branches with their head resting in the middle of the coils and they hunt at night.

Their eyes have vertical pupils which help them to sense movement and they have deep pits in the scales around their mouth for detecting heat given off by their prey.

Why boa constrictors won't make good pets?

Boa Constrictors do make great pets if you don't mind a snake that can get 6-10 feet. The larger size of them is not for everyone. However, they are not the largest snakes out there. I currently have 9 ball pythons, 6 red tail boa ( boa constictors), 7 kenyan sand boas, and 1 amazon tree boa. Of the snakes I own, the boa constrictors are my favorite. But remember they do get larger then the others I have but they have great temperment. If you can house one and don't mind cleaning the cage once a week or every time it deficates and cleaning the water bowl every 2-3 days. They make wonderful pets.
