Boy Scouts

The Boy Scouts require that the Scouts be reverent, i.e. that they believe in a higher power, but they do not specify beyond that. In other words, you must have a religionbut it can be any religion.

According to Charity Navigator, the CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA was paid $435,352 for Fiscal Year ending September 2009.

According to Charity Navigator, the Chief Scout Executive of Boy Scouts of America was paid $1,046,415 for the Fiscal Year ending December 2009 and the former Chief Scout Executive received $230,833 for that same Fiscal Year.

That would not reflect very well on them as a person. Eagle Scouts are meant to be symbols of the excellence of scouting. Not living up to that standard would be rather pitiful.

Yes. It is common for the same person to play more than one role in a pack.

It is, however, preferable to get as many different adults leaders involved in as many different roles as possible. This is especially so for the more labor intense positions such as den leader, cub master and comittee chair.

Kennedy and Ford were members and big supporters, Ford winning some award from The BSA as president ( when he was president). While far too old to be a member the Rough Rider himself- Theodore Roosevelt supported the movement, he also supported the Boone and Crockett club ( hunting) and the N.R.A. and other outdoorsmanlike- to coin a word activities.

The question is really too vague to answer. Some types of contributions are, and others might not be. If there is any doubt in your mind, consult a tax professional (a CPA or Enrolled Agent).

The reason it gets sticky is that some local Boy Scout units are charted by organizations that are 501(c)(3) organizations, a few are 501(c)(3) organizations in their own right (though the national organization discourages this), and some are neither. Donations to 501(c)(3) organizations are usually deductible. Donations to other organizations might not be.

According to Wikipedia there were 21,000,000 males age 10 -19 in 2000 in the US. Also according to Wikipedia there are 2,739,692 boy scout youths (age 11-17). That would indicate that more then 13% of boys are in scouting at a given time.

Assuming the birth rate didn't change much over the course of a decade, the number of boys age 11-17 should be about 7/10 of 21M or about 14.7M. That would make the percentage of boys in scouting 2.7M/14.7M or about 19%.

Counting boys who become scouts but drop out before their 17th birthday, the percentage would be even higher.

When the Cub Scouts was first established in 1930 the three ranks were Wolf, Bear and Lion. In 1941 the WEBELOS badge was added for 10 year old boys who had finished the Lion badge (it went by age then - not school year as we do it today). Its symbol was what we now use for the Arrow of Light.

In 1967 the Lion Rank was dropped and the 10 year old Cubs were known as WEBELOS. The badge still looked like our Arrow of Light. Around 1972 they changed the name of the WEBELOS rank badge to the Arrow of Light.

The five ranks as we know them today, Bobcat, Wolf, Bear , WEBELOS, and Arrow of Light were established in in 1978.

The YOUNGEST Eagle Scout of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines is Eagle Scout Generoso Ignacio S. Jacinto of Ateneo De Manila University. He took the Board of Review on December 2009 and earned the rank on February 2010. He was just 13 years old. The rank is usually earned in a Scout's 4th Year in High School. He earned the rank in Grade 7

International Boy Scouts of the Canal Zone was created in 1947.

You open with the lighting of a log with thirteen candles in it. You then hand out all ranks, merit badges, and square knot awards that have been awarded to Scouts since the last Court of Honor. You close with a non-denominational prayer.
