I am in this situation, only im the girl wo has just been told by her boyfriend of 3 years that he isn't ready for a relationship, wen i thought we were set.

Dont be cruel, if you can help it. Dont say you arent in love with her, you are in a relationship with her that at the moment is based on lies, you may have fallen out of love with her, but don't tell her that, its crippling - trust me.

Tell her that you feel like things arent going in a direction that you are happy with and that you need some space to get your head togeter and that she should do the same. Use the time to really evaluate things. If you saw her with another guy how would you feel? Are you ready to not have her in your life? If you wade in and tell her you don't love her you WILL lose her, and you cant undo it.

If after you've had some space you decide you are ready to leave the relationship, do it then, tell her that you used the time apart to think about your life and you realise that you need to make changes and that you cant do that whilst your ina relationship. Be fair and be kind.

Give him enough space to make a decision. He's not over her.

Remove yourself from his life in every way. Have no contact. If you do see him by accident somewhere just say hi and that's it. You will know in time if he has had a wake up and comes back to you. In the meantime you will have moved forward and gotten over the hurt so you can look at him more objectively. It will be hard to just be gone from his life, but if he hsays your not the one then you have to send him a clear message that you are not going to settle. You are worth a man saying "your the only one". Let him see your new found strength. In addition, you will get stronger and will not settle. If you often get upset or emotional during relationships weather they are long distance relationships, breakups or teen dating, its all down to emotional attachment. When you have been for someone for a while you become emotionally attached and get into a habit of seeing one an other, this is often thought to be one of the three L's in relationships...love, lust, or loneliness. When this person is not there anymore you get a feeling of loneliness but this is just the first part. if you get upset in a relationship when things are going fine, its usually because your emotions are high and they overtake you and can either make you cry, laugh, or worse, breakup because you think there's something wrong, when really there's not. if there are problems in the relationship and you find yourself getting upset over nothing at all really, then just try to talk to a close friend or partner, it really does help. sometimes people can feel a little bit lonely in a relationship as if they are being pushed aside too, and may want some attention, this is mostly common in long term relationships but happens often in any circumstances. One other reason may be for no reason you are not happy in the relationship but don't know it.

Stop answering his text messages. You are only encouraging this by your responses, so you may be bringing this upon yourself. If he is really your "ex" boyfriend, then let him go ... if you ignore his messages, eventually he will go away. You could also put a block on his messages. If you keep responding, then he is not your "ex".

Relationships are fluid and organic. What seems terrific at first may just be chemical attraction. Certainly it had to be a hard decision for the one who decided not to go further after a short time. However, it was a kindness to do this as soon as they knew it wouldn't work (believe it or not) and you should move on also. Besides being perfect, loving the other person, you have to be in like, and time of life matters a lot.

It is somewhat old fashioned to say this, but if you are a teen, are you doing well in school, looking for training or education in a trade so that you can make a good living? If you are in your twenties, do you have a financial plan (keeping bills paid, savings and so on) and on it goes. If you are in your forties and fifties, the same thing. Life catches up with you and it is not right for someone you love to have sort out your life's responsibilities. Most times, if your affairs are in order, then you are ready to share a life with someone.

You try to stay in her life as much as possible and wait until she breaks up with him. You can speed this process by saying, "Do you really want to be with him?" and talk from there.

It appears there is no communication skills between the two of you and it may be because you are simply tired of his coming and going. You have become an "enabler" for his behavior.
