Not really that difficult as it looks. I've done this a few times before. I don't own the car or have an access to one, so this is just based on what I can remember.
Take off a black plastic cover by removing 2 nylon inserts. Remove couple of 10mm screws. Slide a plastic clip. Move the headlight around a little, and pull the headlight forward and upward. Bending the part of the bumper cover doesn't damage the paint or the cover, but might crack the paint if it's been repainted. I can usually do this in 5 minutes or less.

The reason you are getting no heat is the valve to the heater core is bad, or the core itself or one of the hoses is bad. I have an 05 lacrosse with the same problem. I can hear the water circulating in the core which seems to fluctuate in volume and is related to the heat output. I tried to increase and decrease the temp to see if that would unstick it. I am pretty sure I have a blockage in the core itself. If need be I will go to the junkyard and rip one out for 20 bucks and replace it.
