What would be a disadvantage of configuring a wireless router or access point to operate only in accordance with the 802.11g protocol standard?

What is one disadvantage that 802.11a wireless has compared to 802.11g?

A. Use of the 5GHz band requires much larger antennas.

(Has to be this answer, others are just wrong.)

B. The OFDM modulation technique results in a slower data rate.

802.11a = OFDM 54 Mbps 802.11g = DSSS 11 Mbps or OFDM 54 Mbps

C. There are fewer non-overlapping channels available to help reduce RF

802.11a = 8 Channels 802.11g = 3 Channels

D. The use of higher frequencies means that signals are more likely to be obstructed.

802.11a = 5 GHz 802.11g = 2.4 GHz

Other way around, the 2.4 GHz frequency band is crowded, and subject to

interference from other networking technologies such as microwave ovens,

2.4GHz cordless phones (a huge market), and bluetooth. Also the higher

the frequency the better it is at penetrating walls and scattering or

reflecting of walls and ceilings.

How long should you play the computer?

What is a purpose of default gateway?

When users sign into the internet they may not realize they are using a series of gateways to access their favorite websites. A default gateway is used a lot in office settings where a lot of computers need to be connected to both their internal network and the internet.

How do you connect a laptop to the internet without using dailup?

There are three ways;

1. The first one is using a wireless modem either built in to the computer or attached via usb or firewire and connect that to a wireless router or wireless hotspot.

2. Use Ethernet, using an Ethernet port (it looks like a dial up port except wider) and connect that to the back of a DSL router or Ethernet access point.

3. Using Mobile Broadband, usually provided by mobile providers that is plugged in to a USB port

What is advice on building your own computer?

Brand-name computers are good quality but building your own can save you money and get you exactly what you want.

Brand-name is good quality, but they often bundle there PC's with lots of accessories and junk software that you probably will never use, and they jack up the price for it. I have recently built my first PC, it was surprisingly easy and fun. The first thing you should have in mind is what you want it to do, I built mine for games, so having upgradeable hardware is key...I wanted to be able to upgrade my graphics later on..

So you need to keep things in mind like this, do you want on-board video or not? I started with the motherboard and built around that. You need to fully understand that certain parts only work with certain parts e.g. you CANNOT stick a AGP video card into a PCI-E slot and expect it to work if you get my drift. Same goes for CPU/Mobo/RAM ect. So if you're building going from the ground up you need to remember this stuff, you CANNOT stick a 775 socket CPU in a 774 socket Motherboard. You will end up damaging both the CPU and the MOBO.

So keep that in mind, when you buy a Motherboard you should get a list of all the compatible hardware/software...Also there are lots of different Case types like : ASUS, Abit, MSI, DFI, ATX which all have different screw holes for the Motherboard and power supply...So advice would be to start with the motherboard and build up from that using the recommended hardware for the motherboard. Find a case that fits, make sure you have a Operating system disk handy, and make sure that OS is supported by all of your hardware.

You may also want to install the CPU yourself to save a lil money or you could opt for a Mobo w/pre-installed CPU and make things MUCH easier. I installed my CPU by myself was worried about it at first hearing a lot or horror stories of things going wrong, but personally I found it easy and had no problems installing the CPU whatsoever. Make sure you do the research first before attempting to install a CPU because you could easily destroy a CPU if you don't know what your doing. Don't be afraid to use a walk-through! It's a great feeling once you get her up and running and installing your new operating system :)

I'm 17, and have been building my own PCs for just over 5 years now. It's not as hard as they say...

You have to decide what you want the PC for, gaming, work, server management etc. After that, you need to decide what the best hardware is for your specific purpose (speak to a local PC dealer or two).

E.g: For gaming, you want a dual core CPU at minimum (quad core or higher preferred). So make sure the motherboard can handle a good CPU as well as lots of ram (+- 8 gb) and pci-e slot. If you can get a SLI compatible board then go for it (can connect to graphics cards of the same type to double memory). Also aim for a gigabit on-board network card and 5.1 channel sound card. A good hard drive is essential (250gb should do at first). Make sure your mother board can handle SATA (Serial-ATA) drives as they transfer data at a much quicker rate than the old IDE... I would suggest going for a Gigabyte mother board if it is your first build. They are easy to manage and very reliable.

What is a device that allows computers to communicate with one another via telephone or cable lines?

A modem. Modem is short for mudulator/demodulator. Telephone lines use analog signals which your computer cannot interpret. When analog signals reach a modem however, they are converted to digital signals and then passed to the computer. When sending data, this process is reversed.

What is another name for the default gateway?

A "Default Gateway" refers to the Router to which your Local Area Network is connected to. This Router provides the link to the outside world (Internet or Wide Area Network). If this is a home PC situation then the Broadband Router is the Default Gateway. When your PC requests a network resource (webpage or server share) that is not on the local subnet the request is automatically forwarded to the Default Gateway which in turn forwards the request to the far end (Node) of that link. You can have many Gateways on your LAN, each providing a Route to a particular extenal network. All networks must have one of these Gateways as default so all other requests can be sent to it by "Default" this is where the term comes from.

What makes Internet slow?

There is no fix for Internet explorer. You can improve on it, by doing many things, but it's just plain sloooooow! If you think it's something else; download firefox and compair the two. You'll see it's IE. Microsoft should be ashamed of themselves. Maybe when everyone stops using IE, and goes to another browser, they will wake up. There might be some , issue with settings of the internet explorer , to resolve your issue open the internet explorer , Go the Tools > internet options > Advance . and after that click on the reset button , it may solver your issue . Note: If internet explorer working slow. you can follow some steps. Solution: 1: Create restore point and take registry backup.

2: Delete all temp files.

3: Delete all unwanted software's and security software's from add/remove program.

4: Disable all unwanted services from startup and then remove from registry.

5: Reset internet explorer and then register all .dll files.

6: Scan with spyware removal and trojon removal.

7: Check windows update if found and then download and install.

8: Restart the computer.

How do you connect my wireless usb adapter to another wireless router?

Assuming this other computer is not located near your router (in which case you would just run a cable) the first thing you need is to make sure this computer has a working wireless card that is compatible with your router.

There are four flavors of wireless - A, B, G, and N. A is rarely used these days and not compatible with the rest. N cards and routers are usually backward compatible with B and G, but check. G is the most widely available.

Once you have a computer with a compatible card that you know is working, just connect it like you did your first computer that's on the network. In some cases, you may have to power down all of your devices and then re-boot "from the wall out" - first the modem, then the router, finally the computer(s). It's that simple. Most wireless router are configured by default to accept a number of simultaneous connections.

If for some reason the above fails, check your computer and make sure the wireless card is activated (Device Manager) and receiving - you should see some kind of indicator on your computer or the card depending on your equipment.

Still no connection? Check the settings on your router. Did you enable security (WEP, WPA, etc) or turn off broadcasting? You'll need to make those settings on you new computer. Specifics of this can be involved and depend on which method you use.

Difference between induction motor and synchrous motors?

Induction generators consist of stator windings and rotor windings both of which can be excited or one can be excited at a time so that they can run as singly excited as well as doubly excited machines .and in induction machines rotor consists of ARMATURE winding which is moving and the static FIELD windings is in stator.

Whereas synchronous gen. or alternators consists of static stator which consists of ARMATURE winding and moving rotor which consists of FIELD windings. so alternators are only singly excited systems in which the field winding is energised by a DC supply or with a rectifier and AC source and the or prime mover is moved with the help of steam as in thermal powerplant or with the help of water in hydropower plant so it is used in generating units where AC power is generated.

How can you hook up your laptop to a wireless router via cable if you also have a desktop with a cable modem.?

I should be able to help with this - but unfortunately I'm not quite following the question!! Could you rephrase and draw me a little verbal picture...the wording is confusing me a little. Thanks.

Is 6.5 MBPS fast?

6 Mbps, or 6 Megabits per second, or 768 Kilobytes per second.

That means every 1 second there are 768 Kilobytes of data transfered.

If You are talking about internet speed, for year 2010 is pretty good speed.

You can download a movie in few hours, song in few seconds...

As of 7/31/2010, average Cable companies provide 4 to 12 mbit connections. However, in reality, you rarely get more than 1/2 of this.

DSL has a slightly higher rate of utilization (60-70%), and are typically sold from 256 kbit to 10mbit, varying wildly. Ultimately, the two are very, very similar in average, but performance differences from location to location based on the company, technology, condition of cable or DSL lines, etc.

Dialup is typically called 56k but this is a different measurement, called 'kilobauds'. A 56k connection at a high rate (48k) can average 9 KB/s or 72kbit.

Most cellular internet lines average 256 kbit.

Most satellite averages 1mbit or less. (Higher is theoretically possible, but not under realistic, sustained usage.)

Verizon FiOS and other FiOS lines average 10 to 40mbit.

First-level fiber optic lines, such as OC1, averages 51mbit. NOT to be confused with T1, which is NOT fiber optic, and averages 1.5mbit. T3 averages 45mbit.

Overall, 6mbit is approximately an 'average' internet connection speed.

it should be noted there is also an 'upload' speed, which is typically MUCH lower than your download.

For example, it's usually a 1:8 ratio for cable. In other words, an 8mbit cable line usually have 1mbit of upload. This is how fast you SEND files, rather than RECEIVE them.

DSL is usually a 1:4 ratio, and a large reason for DSL's continued and growing popularity. It is preferable for businesses or users who send more than they receive.

T1, T3, and OC3 have a 1:1 ratio, uploading and downloading equally.

Dialup is usually a 1:2 ratio. IE, if they receive at 8 KB/s, they send at 4 KB/s. But this is technically lower as the act of sending also uses some of the downstream, and since they are already slow, a large outgoing transfer causes a much bigger bottleneck.

If the upstream is too low to support the downstream, it can also limit the downstream.

Typically, you need 1 mbit of upstream for every 5.5 mbit of downstream. So having 1mbit of up and 12mbit of down is a misnomer: You will be limited to only 5.5mbit of actual downstream. This varies based on the packet size, settings, distance of carrier, and protocol (such as IP, IPS, IPX, UDP, etc.) but is a good general rule. Some cable and DSL companies have come under scrutiny as a result of this indescrepency, as has Verizon for their FiOS service.

What is the definition of universal gate?

universal gates are the ones from which we can design other gates also. for eg. NAND and NOR gates. they help in forming the uniformity in the circuits.

How do you find the wireless network password?

First, what operating system are you running on the computers that are connected. This will determine whether we can do this easily through the windows GUI, or if we'll have to get it through less palatable means.

What are the main features of ADhoc network?

The main feature of an ad-hoc network is that there are temporary and do not require any cabling. The only connections required are the wireless connections in the devices. As a result there is very little setup to worry about.

What is a Acronym MODEM?

MOdulator-DEModulator, by names of processes which perform the main role in modems.

What is the advantages and disadvantages of Internet to the user?

The category says 'Computer Games' so I'll just list a few for those, then a few for general internet.

As far as computer games go, advantages include: More variation, playing with friends, instead of just learning to beat the computer you learn to create new strategies, you can make new friends.

Disadvantages: If you're new to a game and try playing it online you'll get destroyed, there are user created hacks, it can get laggy.

And for general internet:

Advantages

-Quick access to information, and media

-Socialize with existing friends and make new ones

-Pay for things from your home

-Online data storage

Disadvantages

-Information is often inaccurate, as it's all user based. The internet tends to operate on a 'majority rules' basis, so if the majority of people are saying something is correct, then that's way the internet will portray it. This fails to account for the fact that the majority of people aren't using original research or first hand experience, just regurgitating what they heard from someone else.

-Malware such as virus' can cost you thousands of dollars

-You'll probably spend too much time on the computer

Can you take your modem anywhere?

You can use a wireless modem if there is an unlocked signal available.

What is the main function of a modem in regards to a computer?

The modem on a computer translates digital signals into an analogue 'noise', and transmits it down a telephone line.

This is received by another modem at the other end, which captures the signals, and converts them back into data.

It allows for transmission of digital data over an analogue telephone line.
