How do you change a thermostat on a 2003 dts?
If you look to the right front side of the motor you will see where the upper radiator hose connects to the water pump housing directly where this hose attaches there is a thermostat housing that is held by two bolts remove the hose first then remove the two bolts that are in the thermostat housing take out the old thermostat replace with new but you may want to bleed all the air out of the system first these cars are bad about developing air pockets in the system and causing the auto to overheat the way i remove the air is by removing the same hose and filling with fluid directly into the system through this hose but keep an eye on the overflow tank as well it would be better to have some one watch the over flow to make sure it does not run dry while you add fluid

What effect does the outside temperature sensor have on controlling the air conditioning?
As long as the a/c compressor is on (the amber light with snowflake symbol), air is cooled as it moves through the system. The outside air temperature together with the inside car temperature and the input from the sunlight load detector (in center of dash under windshield) determines how much, if any, "reheating" is done. The wider the variance between the set temperature and the actual in-car temperature, the higher/lower the fan speed with be when set on automatic, and the more or less hot coolant flows through the heater core to "reheat." Reheating is necessary because if the system simply disengaged the a/c compressor to maintain the temperature, the humidity would not be removed, and you would go from comfortable to too cold, then clammy/sticky, back to too cold. The A/c compressor does cycle off and on to maintain the condensor above the freezing point, so it won't run much if the outside temp is 35 or lower. Below about 30 it probably won't run at all. As long as your system is working properly it's best to keep the system on automatic (mode and fan speed) with the a/c compressor engaged. The fuel saved by avoiding use the a/c compressor is very minimal. The exception would be if you were in a very very dry climate with low humidity you could use the system without a/c compressor engaged unless you actually needed to cool the car. Although the new systems are digital, Cadillac actually invented this system and has used it in all air conditioned cars since 1964. It worked basically the same way, but the control was analog and used vacuum and electromechanical means to accomplish the same thing.

Your 2003 cadillac cts leaks transmission fluid Where can you add fluid to transmission?
call the dealer. The transmission is "sealed".
Brittany- you do not need to call a dealer, if you know the basics on how to work on cars you can do this, my bf and I have the same car and he fixed it for under 300, he had to replace the transmission lines from the front of the car back, had to replace the radiator, and redid the seals for the transmission. It was hard and he cussed a ton, but he got it done in less then 2 days. The cheapest a dealership or pretty much any place wanted at least 2k dollars to do all of this for parts plus labor, and all he did was bought a basic socket set and starbit set. If you don't have that kind of money to pay a shop then get the book and you can do it yourself.

Where is the Battery in 2001 Cadillac dts?
I have a 2001 Cadillac DHS. It is located under the back seat . You have to pull the seat portion up and out toward the back of the front seat. There are two litte black flat points about three inches wide that slip behind the back part of the rear seat backs. It is kind of like a up and out motion. The battery is large and heavy...you may have to take the seat completely out to get to the battery. If you have heated rear seats there is small connection you may need to disconnect to free up the seat for removal. Simple disconnect. It is a wire length connection on the rear passenger side close to the exit door threshold. The battery has a rubber type hold down ...but the the real securing point is the plastic block that is bolted down...you have to remove the block with a socket to release the battery completely. Seat goes back in that same motion just....slip the black points under the back of the seat and push back and then down. Hope this information is helpful.
