Calling and Area Codes

Mullagh, County Cavan, is in area code 046 (+353 46), along with some parts of County Meath.

Although there were special "shortcut" codes for dialling calls to Ireland from the UK some years ago, they have been discontinued. All calls from the UK (including Northern Ireland) to the Republic of Ireland must now use the full international number.

In the U.S., 740 is an area of Ohio that separated from Area 614 in December 1997. It almost surrounds the current 614 area and covers the area between Columbus and the West Virginia border.

A UK number beginning with +44 703 (or domestically 0703) is a personal "follow-me" number and is not an area calling code. The personal number can be forwarded to almost anywhere in the world. The caller pays a higher charge for calling these types of numbers.

This range of numbers has been used all over the world by scammers. Calling a number in the UK that begins with '70' does not specifically mean that the person/phone you are calling is actually in the United Kingdom.

Often the number will be broken up in a different way to try to mislead the reader into thinking it is a UK mobile number. UK mobile numbers begin with +44 74 through +44 79.
