What is the difference between a video camera and a digital still camera?
Conventional/traditional photography is the use of film to capture images in a camera. The film then must be developed, resulting in negatives (negative images) of the images. These negatives are then enlarged using special equipment and paper and then printed and developed chemicals. Digital cameras capture images using sensors on a memory card, which are then transferred to a computer for printing on specialized printers. The benefits of traditional darkroom photography is the amazing quality of the photographs. Only in recent years has digital photography even began to compare to the quality of traditional film, but it is increasing in both quality and popularity. In the near future it is projected to be equal to and even surpass traditional photography. The benefits of digital photography are the ease of use and convenience. Images can be viewed and deleted instantly, instead of shooting through multiple rolls without knowing if you have a successful image.

How was the first camera made?
The very first "Pin-Hole camera", by Ibn-ul-Hashiyam, which was no more than a light-tight box containing a photo sensitive plate at one end and a very small hole at the other. The small hole allowed for sustantial "depth of field" which precluded the need for a focusing lens. the idea was that the camera was rested on a secure surface or tripod, the hole was uncovered, and the light was allowed to enter the small hole for usually a number of minutes, depending on the sensitivity of the photo plate.... You can try this if you have access to a darkroom. Just use a piece of photo paper (protect it from any light before its exposed and until processong)...a shoe box works great. check the web for better detailed instructions..they're all over the place.

Can you get a speeding ticket from a camera on traffic lights?
No is the answer. There are many myths and fables but they are just that. You can challenge the accuracy of the reading and calibration of the device. You can challenge the siting and prominent colour of the device pertinent to the law. But number plate 'cloaking' devices or travelling at 'blind speeds', forget it. With the new generation camera pairs looking at average speed over a set distance, the likelihood of getting away with anything is even more remote.

Why are your eyes red in pictures?
You are actually seeing images of the retina, the layer of cells at the back of the eye. There are many blood vessels in that part of the eye, as well as a very high concentration of light receptor cells.
You will note that in virtually every photo in which you see 'red eye', the photographer used a flash. The flash was probably on the camera, making it possible for light from the flash to make a reasonably direct trip from flash to retina and back to the camera. The need for the flash suggests that the ambient light level is low enough for the subjects' irises to be open. The flash and exposure happen so quickly that the iris doesn't have time to adjust by closing a little. The result is the slightly creepy effect that we call red eye.
This is why most cameras today have a pre-flash option for photos of people and/or animals. A few short bursts of light cause a person's irises to close a little, and red eye is almost always avoided. If this option is not available with your camera, then placing the flash at an angle, away from the camera, may also help reduce red eye. The problem can also be fixed easily with most photo editing software packages.
