There have been no Canadian coins based on the old British Imperial currency system minted for well over 130 years.

That depends on the country of issue of the $20 and the provinance on the bill. If it is a US $20 bill, it would be worth at least $20 today. If the provinance on the bill is that it comes attached with a letter staing the story behind it, and possibily a letter from Prince George stating here is the $20 I owe you, serial number XXX, then it would be of collectable interest and would probably fetch more at auction from interested collectors of Prince (King) George memorbelia, and if the letter were addressed to Wallis Simpson, then undoubtably may fetch several hunder dollors.

Point 1 - A "Quarter"is the US term for a 25 cent coin. The British did not produce any "Quarters". Point 2 - Elizabeth II had not been born in 1861, and would not be for a further 60 plus years.

It depends on the date when it was minted. Prior to 1967 they were 80% silver and 20% copper. During that year a switch was made to 50% silver and 50% copper.

This continued the following year (1968), during which the switch was made to 100% nickel.

There is no simple way to distinguish the alloys used during 1967. Nickel 1968 quarters can be distinguished from silver ones as the former are attracted by a magnet.

Finally, in 2001 a switch was made to cupronickel plated steel. These coins are also magnetic, but have a P below the Queen's head.

Canada didn't strike nickels until 1922. Before that the coins were made of silver like the old US half-dime coin, and were simply called 5 cent pieces.

Cents with this date exist in several varieties so it's not possible to determine a value without seeing it in person. Your best bet would be to find a dealer who works with Canadian coins and ask for an appraisal.

Alas, there are several different kinds of "ounce", making this question difficult to answer.

James B. Longacre designed the U.S. 5 cent coin (commonly called "the nickel") to weigh precisely 5 grams. At the time (1866), he and many other people expected that people in the U.S. would soon convert to the international metric system.

The "fluid ounce" is a measure of volume. While it various from one country to another, a U.S. fluid ounce measuring spoon (also called a 2 tablespoon measuring spoon) holds an amount of water that weighs the same as 6 nickels.

The avoirdupois ounce (common ounce) is 28.35 gm so it's slightly less than 6 US nickels.

The troy ounce (used for precious metals) is 31.1 gm and weighs slightly more than 6 US nickels.

Canadian nickels have had many different weights over the years. Since 2000, the most common weight has been 3.95 gm so 7 Canadian nickels (28.35 / 3.95) would approximate that amount. If you're referring to troy ounces, the nearest amount would be 8 Canadian nickels.

Often called a Barber dime after the artist who designed it, these coins were struck at three mints that year. Look on the back of the coin to see if there's a small mint mark letter. It may be blank or there may be a D or S.

You are asking about a 1 Cent coin from Canada (KM#49). The coin is 19.1mm in diameter, weighs 3.24 grams and is made of bronze. The obverse (front) bears the "young" portrait of Queen Elizabeth and the words "ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA" (Latin for "Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of G-d, Queen"). The reverse (back) depicts 2 maples leaves, above which is the denomination ("1 CENT") and below which is the date ("1963") and "CANADA". 279,076,334 such coins were produced in 1963.

According to the Standard Catalog of World Coins, in circulated condition such a coin would be worth its exchange value (as of January 2011, the Canadian dollar and the US dollar are worth about the same); in Uncirculated MS-60 it would be worth about 15 US cents, and in Uncirculated MS-63 about 30 US cents.

In very good condition, it would be worth $75. Mint condition uncirculated notes are worth nearly $3,000!

It said in a coin collection book that this coin costs about $500.00

These coins were struck in steel to free up nickel for the war effort. They are worth about 20 cents if worn, up to maybe $1.50 in XF condition.

it's still worth 2 dollars, , maybe it will be worth something in say...50 years or so, some stores in Canada still accept them.

I just bought low quality F-12 1908 Newfoundland 50 cents on e-bay for $4.00. Mintage for this 11.78 g 0.925 silver coin was only 140,000.Similar US or Canadian coins minted same time , same quality with less silver and higher mintage are much more expensive.

At the absolute minimum, it is worth its face value ($0.25). It might be worth more, but you would have to get it appraised. Value would depend mostly on condition, along with year and circulated/uncirculated.

An average circulated coin showing wear will probably be worth between $1.5 and $5, while coins showing more luster and less wear can reach up to $53.
