What are the authorized methods of the death penalty in the US?

The death penalty has been administered in a variety of ways over the course of America's history. In the beginning of capital punishment it was meant to deter and instill fear in people. It was done during the daytime in a public space and was well advertised leading up to the death. The execution was done very close to where they had committed the crime. American's have always seeked more humane forms of punishment. Nowadays the execution is usually held around midnight in a central location that is out of public view. The predominant way in which we administer executions is lethal injections in which their is a 3 drug cocktail. The first drug is thiopental sodium that should render the person unconscious. The next drug is pancuronium Bromide that acts as a paralytic to collapse the person's lungs and other organs. Last is Potassium Chloride that stops the persons heart.

Crime and punishment in ancient rome?

Anything. Being a patriarchal society, Roman men had absolute power over their children, wives, and sometimes even extended family in certain cases. They could kill them if they liked, though that was looked down on. So were many harsher punishments; you must remember that these children (the boys, at least,) would grow into the next tier of Roman aristocracy in many cases. They weren't mistreated too often or severely.

Striking a child would be a simple and common punishment. We don't have exact records on Roman society, I'm getting this last punishment from a passage regarding a group of rowdy children refusing to do their schoolwork. Most of our ideas on Rome are from reliefs and writings, and people don't often carve pictures of them beating up kids. Unless you're Caligula, in which case graffiti might depict something similar. But I digress.

I hope I answered your question.

How lethal injection works?

A lethal injection is exactly what it's name is. It's a lethal dose of a harmful drug or something along the same line. An overdose of a certain drug can also be called a lethal injection. The lethal injection is injected into the arm or where ever on the person and there is so much of that drug (or it's poison) that it causes your heart to stop beating and you die.

What do Jews believe about capital punishment?

According to Jewish law, the burden of proof and the requirements for being able to sentence someone to death are so strict that it's virtually impossible.

  • The person had to be warned three times that what they're about to do is punishable by death.
  • Two independent witnesses had to directly see the person commit the crime (be in the same place/room).
  • The trial can only take place when both the sanhedrin AND Temple are in place.
  • Captial cases can only be tried by courts having 23 members.
  • Conviction cannot be based on confession or circumstantial evidence.

Additionally, only the 'sanhedrin' could possibly sentence someone to death, an event so uncommon that a court that sentenced someone to death once in 70 years was noted for that sentence.

In regard to crimes that would warrant corporal punishment, the above rules apply no differently. Additionally, if the crime was already rectified by another act, corporal punishment no longer applied.

What questions can I ask in a debate against capital punishment?

If capital punishment is a deterrant why are homicides rates rising? Where is the justice when an innocent person is executed? (Since 1973, 95 people on death row have been released after having been found wrongfully convicted). Why are a disproportionate number of indigent and minorities sentenced to death compared to murderers of a different social status and race. (2003 stats..White victims account for 1/2 of all murder victims, 80% of those convictions result in the death penalty. During 2003 12 white defendants were executed for the killing of black vitims, 178 black defendants were executed for the killing of white victims.) How do Christians rationalize their pro death penalty stand when it comes to agape? What about the financial burden to the taxpayers? (For example, Ted Bundy was on death row for 10 years before he was executed the cost to Florida taxpayers was more than 6 million dollars.)Why is the rate of violent crime lower in countries without the death penalty.

What are the main reasons for a capital punishment to take place?

If killing is a crime, then why should the death penalty still be allowed to those who committed a crime? Wouldn't that to make you a murderer because it's just another cycle of endless killing.

Is hanging a capital punishment still in US?

Only lethal injection is used at the federal level and only the states of Washington and New Hampshire still retain hanging as an option.

In New Hampshire, if it is found to be 'impractical' to carry out the execution by lethal injection, then the condemned will be hanged, and in Washington the condemned still has an outright choice between hanging and lethal injection.

Do baptist church teach capital punishment?

Baptist as a denomination is made of autonomous churches, each made of individuals seeking out their own salvation as encouraged by Paul in the Bible. Old Testament laws had capital punishment and it was not addressed in the New Testament. The New Testament does encourage us all to have love and to express God's love to our fellowmen. The topic of capital punishment is not only a personal one but one of political consequence. Personally I am scared of capital punishment because I would never want to condemn someone to death and find out later that the person was not guilty of the crime of which he was condemned. Yet, I have not and probably will not fight against the law.

Where did the death penalty originate?

Capital punishment is as old as human civilization; it is at least 3-5 thousand years old--and has probably been practiced for 10,000 years or more.
