Why was Captain John Smith with Pocahontas at a time?
Smith came to Jamestown in it's second year and did not " go to her land". Jamestown settled on an Native American empire of 14,000 people. They took the land with no respect for the people all ready living there. If the land hadn't been the worse in the area the men of Jamestown most likely would have been attacked. As it was the Native Americans knew that there were problems with swampy land, bad water, and disease so the 104 men built a fort in the "slums" of the empire. Later, after returning to England Smith lied in his book about his role in Jamestown and his meeting of Pocahontas, but by that time she was all ready dead.
Yes and no. He was a fortune hunter, very egocentric, and he lied about his time in Jamestown. The men of Jamestown dispatched him by sprinkling gunpowder on him while he slept and set him on fire. He had to go home to get medical treatment.

Captain John Smith died in London on June 21, 1631. He is buried in St. Sepulchre's Church.
She didn't save Smith. The story we know is not true. Actually the colonist landed in an area of 14,000 Native Americans and in the worse land in the area. Powhatan pretty much left them alone. I think he figured that they would die from the bad water and disease . He was fairly right. Within 6 months there were only 34 men left alive of the 104 who came. It wasn't until after his death that the brother of Powhatan attacked the colony. The story about Smith is also not true. He did NOT save Jamestown. He was only there a very few months and he lied about his contribution to the settlement in a book he wrote several years later. He also made up the story about Pocahontas and she died young so couldn't refute his story. The man who did save Jamestown was the husband of Pocahontas and gave tobacco seeds to the colony. That was John Rolfe.

John Smith? Maybe you mean Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith was the first modern prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (commonly called Mormons). He didn't take over from anyone, he was the first. Technically, Joseph Smith took over from the ancient apostle, Simon Peter, who was with Christ in His ministry. This is why it was Peter, along with James and John, appeared to Joseph Smith and who conferred the rights of the Melchizedek Priesthood Keys upon the head of Joseph Smith, because they passed what they then held in their own possession at Joseph's time, upon him.
Captain John Smith (c. January 1580 -- June 21, 1631) Admiral of New England was an English Soldier, Explorer and, author, but it known for his establishment of colonial Virginia and brief association with the Indian girl Pocahontas.
